Cell Phone Question
Going to Jamaica next weekend. If I use my cellphone (Verizon) am I going to get crazy charges or should I buy some type of calling card?

Call Verizon to see how much you will have to pay. There are some plans that are cheaper to pay for the month than per-call charges.

Also, you may want to research any calling card you might purchase. Some of them don't work the same way in other countries. I used one in the Dominican Republic and was still charged by the resort. Our travel agent told us about this ahead of time, so I knew it was coming. I'm trying to plan a trip to Jamaica and was told the same thing about using calling cards there.

we used our cell phones in st. lucia to call home and to send text message updates from the airports when we landed before getting our connecting flights.
it did cost more than we probably would have spent doing the calling card thing, but it was a lot more convenient for us .... so it was worth it to us IMHO.

eh, I just don't make social calls in those situations...
I DID use my verizon phone in canada several times... I believe it was 40 cents / min roaming charges  On the flip side, at the time, I had serious flight problems and needed to talk to DH......

Be careful! I don't know what your phone contract is like, but last year I went to Florida and my son got chickenpox and in a fit of craziness, we made lots of calls back to the UK to let everyone know what was going on...and when we got out bill, well, you would not believe itl
