cave cricket! again!

Just saw the fourth one in my house in about a month and a half! THESE SUCKERS ARE DISGUSTING! how do i get rid of them? Is this like an exterminator thing?

i found them in different parts of the house too... not just like near doorways.

I AM SO GROSSED OUT!

Re: cave cricket! again!

You need to get glue traps and put them around the house. You will be sure to catch them!

I get them in my basement, but my sister who doesn't have a basement gets them in her house.

Just be careful with the glue traps if you have pets.

Re: cave cricket! again!

I keep seeing them too! I hate going in the basement b/c I am so terrified.

Is it me or are they HUGE this year?

We had a lot of them in 2007 and used Slomins and they didnt come back until this year but not as bad as 2007.

Re: cave cricket! again!

We had a treatment done this year (child/pet safe), a couple of months ago. I've only seen 1 - and it was outside on our patio. (knock on wood!)

We used yankee exterminating.

My dog catches them, plays with them, and kills them in the process.

Thank God!

They are disgusting! We have a beautiful finished basement that I don't really enjoy because of them Chat Icon

Glue traps catch them but that is gross to see them fill up on there Chat Icon

Re: cave cricket! again!

i actually got the roach bait hotel to not have to look at them. says that they work for crickets. hopefully cave crickets.

i never had ONE in all the years i lived here (ok, only three, but still!!!!) and yesterday i killed 2.

Here's a question... what is your method of killing them?

I take a shoe, hold it over them, and drop it. SQUASH!

if i don't have good aim, they just jump away and behind things. i can't stand these things!!!

I heard exterminating them doesn't work...

Exterminationg definitely does work but it isn't a one time deal. They lay eggs I think for the next year so you have to get rid of them so they don't lay again. As long as we treated theywent away 100%. We use a company that is safe for pets and animals. Battle a Bug. The defititely go away. Traps are nice but will only stop those inside not help with the fact they lay thousands of eggs. We use the traps in the basement to trap ones who got in. We stopped treating for a while so they are back but if you maintenance they don't come back. The sticky tape is safe since it catches but is safe if a child touches it. We only get
them in the basement. I didn't want to use anything with chemicals. I think they are blind and work by sound so they jump away from you or at you when you try to catch them.

It depends on how much work you need etc. I would call a few places and see what they say. I can't tell you what my place charges bc we have them do more than one thing and we get a family discount bc they do work for my parents as well. I don't think it was crazy expensive but it does cost money. We were buying so many sticky papers which added up too. I know the place I use will come, look around and give an estimate.

I've been finding a ton of them in the house lately. Just yesterday I was thinking about how gross they were and saw one sitting at the top of my landing. Of course it didn't die all the way the first time I killed it. Chat Icon I also found a dead one in my cat's bed. At least he kills some of them for me.

You need to spray it with something, anything, just to slow it down, then hit it with a fly squatter. I had issues when I moved into my house too, but it has gotten much much better.

I had to warn the oil burner repairman that I would scream like a little girl if I saw one...and then I did! I seriously scope out the basement stairs before I go down and then do a search before I walk to the washing machine. They make my skin crawl and I almost find them worse when they're dead.

I only get them in my basement. Just a few so I can handle it. I keep a fly swatter in the basement and can usually get them when I see them.
