Cats and Microchips?

when we adopted Duke he was already microchipped but it wasnt registered to us. DH and i have been trying to decide if it is even worth it for a cat.

The cost is minimal do so I guess its not a big deal just to register him, but I just cant see someone finding a cat and bringing it to a vet or shelter to see if it has a chip. People will just assume that it is an outdoor cat or a stray.

If this were a dog i would def register it, but a cat? IDK?

what are your thoughts?

I would do it. I wouldn't just assume a random cat outside was a stray. If the cat were friendly / social and I didn't know who it belonged to, I'd consider taking it to a vet or shelter to be checked for a chip.

Honestly, the cost is so minimal, I would just do it.

we got sushi chipped because I would be devestated if she accidentally got out and lost her collar being outside. the cost is nominal and to me worth it for peace of mind.

P.S. If a friendly cat started hanging out near my house, I would try to find out who it belonged to.

I would, and if you think someone would not turn your cats in if lost keep a collar on them.
