Catching yourself right before you drift off to sleep.

Do you ever "wake up" from the mental state you go into that, if continued, would take you right into sleep?

Lately, I will be drifting off to sleep and then wake up from it. I am so amazed about the weirdo things I am thinking of that have such zero meaning.

Here is an example: I am falling asleep and having random thoughts in my head. You will see/hear images. You are still "awake" technically, and maybe you decide to hit up the bathroom at the last minute. (Happens to me often now because of the pregnancy).

I wonder if this is how dreams start?

I began writing them down, and they are so random!

Anyone else ever experience it? It's kinda neat.

Before I moved out of my parents house almost 8 years ago, I used to have these very weird experiences. I say "experience" because I know I wasn't 100% asleep so it couldn't be a dream really. I would be lying on my bed and feel like someone or something was restraining me. As if my arms were crossed at my chest, and someone was holding them there. My family would say I was dreaming but I was able to tell them what was on the TV as this was happening. I was awake! Probably not fully but enough to know that I was on my bed lying face up and glancing at what was on the TV. I could never explain it and always thought there was a ghost in my bedroom. LOL. I would put up a fight to free my arms until I snapped out of it or woke up.

Yep, I'd say it happens to me probably at least three nights a week.

Sure! This happens everytime I get a seat on the subway. I have actually fallen dead asleep on the train- I mean slumped over, drooling, dreaming, the whole nine. I actually woke up once very suddenly from a dream on the train and when I did, I jumped out of my seat and said "Wait!" People thought I was insane! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had the same thing happen to me....it hasn't happened in a while but I remember it was soooo scary but I was definitely aware of my surroundings which makes it soo weird!!

Happens to me all the time

you're aware of your surroundings, you don't think you're awake.. but you totally have the weirdest sensations. Mine usually involve me feeling like i'm totally out of proportion to my body, like i'm really large trapped in a tiny body, or i'm tiny looking up into the world.. or i'm flying, or falling etc
i'll usually wake up from those semi sleep/dream states and realize i was dreaming before falling back to 'real' sleep
I've also spoken some really strange stuff out loud upon waking up - thankfully not on the train yet, but i've definitely given dh a laugh or too! Chat Icon
