cat carrier

My cats hate the carrier that we use to transport them in the car (to the vet, etc) ..

Do you think they would react this way if we had a different type of carrier? The ones we have now are hard and small, though big enough for them to comfortably sit in there and lay down.

I saw nicer ones at Petco but they were 75 bucks!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Any recs for anything I can do to make transporting in the carrier any easier? A specific carrier rec, maybe? Chat Icon

TIA!

ETA: they put up a massive fight before being put in.

Re: cat carrier

I have a bigger one for use in cargo on the airplane. They go in it without a fight and yes it is roomier, but the result is the same- lots of meowing!

Plus those things are heavy!

Re: cat carrier

i like our carrier its top loading as well as the front door. She hates it and cries and cries - luckily its only been once she had to go in so far.

its a regular small cage for a small dog/cat.

I think they associate the carrier with going to the bad place (vet) or just leaving the comfort of their home.

I don't think the carrier makes the difference. Kittys are homebodies!!

I have had better luck with the soft carrier that is top and side loading. She doesn't like going in it, but it's very cozy in there and she doesn't freak out as much.
