Carseats- 3 across?
Hi ladies,
Currently expecting our 3rd DC- DS1 will be 5 1/2yo and DC will be 3yo when this one is born. We have the Safety1st Convertible Carseats for both which we LOVE, but don't think we can fit another carseat in the middle. We have a Chevy Equinox and a Chevy Captiva (1 row of seating in the back). Any recommendations on what to do/ get to make sure all are safe- without buying new cars lol
Thank you!

Carseats- 3 across?
Diono's are tall and narrow (compared to most car seats). My neighbor has 2 side by side in her SUV and *I think* a 3rd car seat might fit (not necessarily a Diono). The problem that people have with Diono's is the angle of the seat is so drastic that it prevents the driver and passenger seat in the front from being able to have much leg room (front seats have to be up pretty far to accommodate the angle). They do sell an angle adjuster -- its a foam pad that goes under the seat to make it more upright, reducing the angle. There is a Facebook group called Car Seats for the Little (or something like that) and they're great! It's monitored by people who are certified in this area -- you can tell them the make/model of your car, how many seats, ages/weights of children, and they can make recommendations.

Re: Carseats- 3 across?
If you move the 5 year old to a high back booster that is narrow it might give you some more room

Re: Carseats- 3 across?
I had a five year and three year old when my dd was born. We had five yr old in high back booster, bought a diono radian for three year old and then had baby in infant seat. Now that she is moving into a convertible soon I'm hoping everything will still fit. The diono is the slimmest option out there but it is pricey. It does function as a booster as well so I'll get a couple years out of it but it was more than I had wanted to spend.

Re: Carseats- 3 across?
I have a small backseat & needed to fit 3 across but didn't want a new car. We bought 2 diono radians for our 4 & 6 year olds & 1 convertible Uppababy Mesa (which is the narrowest infant seat) for our newborn. $300 each but cheaper than a new car.

Re: Carseats- 3 across?
How much does your 5.5 year old weigh? I would first make sure your seat goes up to the weight your child is at with the 5 point harness. If not, I would get a 5 point harness booster seat (probably slimmer than a convertible) that converts to a seatbelt booster IF you aren't comfortable with just a height back seatbelt booster

He only just turned 5 last month, but will be 5.5 when baby comes. Right now he only weighs 39lbs but is really tall. BC of his weight I wasn't sure how safe a high back booster was. Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Carseats- 3 across?
We used to have 3 Diono Radians across a hyundai veracruz. They fit perfectly and I never had an issue with the angle or leg room.
