Cars without LATCH

Those that have cars without the LATCH system. Are you going to get it installed? One of our cars which is an older model (1999) Honda Accord does not have this LATCH thingy.

I think if you don't have LATCH then you can use the seatbelt, just not both.

How do you know if your car has LATCH?? I assume it does, since it is a newer model, but I never really looked!! Guess I need to get on that one!

I am pretty sure, but I have never checked. I know that mine & DH cars have them. They are both 2004

Re: Cars without LATCH

I went to a baby seat safety seminar. The LATCH system has NOT been proven to be more effective than using seatbelts. So I would not even both to get it installed. We will probably use the seatbelt system anyway, even tho we have the latch system.

Take your car seat to be installed professionally -- this is not just at any firehouse, there is a list of actual professionals who are approved to do this. So many are NOT installed correctly.

This is more important than having LATCH or not.

Also if you have bucket seats in the back they WILL NOT be able to install the car seat correctly.

PS Here is a great website ---

This is all very true! My DH knows how to install them (FDNY EMS) and they are told that the seat belts are just as safe and LATCH is not proven to be better.

No, I didn't with DD [the whole concept had JUST come out when she was born]. I actually had no problems getting her carseat to fit my cars over the years and be secure. The only thing I did extra was purchase the "Mighty Tite," it tightens the seat belt and that car seat doesn't budge at all. I loved it. Neither of our cars have LATCH in them now and I simply plan on using the Mighty Tite again.

They are at Toys R Us and supposedly at Babies R Us, I had to buy mine for this baby at TRU b/c BRU in Westbury didn't carry them.
