Carpet pricing- does this sound right?

Cut pile carpet installed in a 12x13' room. Appx. $500.

It sounds like alot to me....but, then again I am very "thrifty" (aka-cheap ) and I've never bought carpet before.

actually, that sounds like a good price to me!! We had a bedroom about that size and it was +$600

Seems like a lot to me. We got ours from HD... installation was $139 and the stock carpet we chose was $.60 cents/foot. The room is about 12x13 also but has a little hallway before you enter so we had to buy 12x16 worth of carpet so it was seamless. Total was under $300 with new thick padding... the carpet is so soft and plush and they came and installed it 3 days after we paid.

ETA: We removed the old carpet ourselves.

Includes padding- Doesn't include removing the old carpet (it's already gone.)

We went to a few places and for a room just a bit under 12x16 room (I rounded up!) it was between $850-$1000. The removal of carpet was free so that was not included in the price.

It was a nice carpet. Not super top of the line but not the bottom quality either.
