Car with a 3rd row and 3 carseats - help!
We are about to purchase a GMC Acadia with the captains chairs in the second row. We have a 4 year old in a high back booster with harness, a 2 year old in a convertible carseat and we have a baby on the way. I am trying to figure out how to configure all the carseats in the car that will make them easiest to get to.
My 4 year old goes to pre-school and it is a drop of so they take the kids from the car and put them back in. She needs to be on the passenger side of the car for this to happen. I really don't want to put her in the captain chair on this side since I wanted to be able to fold this one down to make the third row more accessible.
Anyway, how do you have your carseats configured if you have a similar car and three kids??
TIA!

I have my oldest in the 3rd row (harnessed booster), middle dd on left side in captain's chair (harnessed booster), and the baby is in the right side (passenger) captain's chair.

Interesting. We are looking at this car as well.
Was thinking our oldest kid (5) in the back, baby on one side & younger kid (3) on the other side.
Which other cars did you consider?

Car with a 3rd row and 3 carseats - help!
There is only one top tether position in the third row (center) so only one foward facing seat may be used there. If your 2 year old is rear facing you can put that seat and the infant seat in the 3rd row and your 4 year old in the passenger captain seat and then fold the drivers captain seat for access to the 3rd row.
Eta: this possibly may not work either since there isn't a lot of room between the 2nd and 3rd rows. So depending on what seats you have they may not be able to rear face back there.

I have 4. I put my toddler and db in the captains chairs in the second row, and my 2 older dc in boosters in the third row. They access the third row through the middle. That is why I chose the captains chairs rather than the bench, so we could access the third row without folding down the seat.

Ugh, I swear, thinking about how to configure these seats is keeping me up at night! So are you saying I can only put one forward facing seat in the third row because there is only one tether or can I use a high back booster there too? The dealer said all the seats can accommodate car seats? My younger daughter has been rear facing, but I was planning on finally turning her forward facing with this new car.

We looked at the acadia and the buick enclave - which are identical cars except for the exterior. My DH didn't like the look of the buick which is why we went with the acadia. The chevy traverse is also the same exact car. We briefly looked at minivans, but my DH really did not want one. I did find they have some features that were a little more family friendly, but in the end we both liked the acadia better. We looked at most 3rd row cars, but really wanted captain chairs as an option for the second row so a lot were eliminated.

You can use a HBB in the 3rd row on the sides, but your 4 year old would be safer in a harness for at least another year or 2. Any FF harnessed seat must go in the center in the 3rd row so it can be top tethered.

Ok thank you! This is super helpful! So maybe I will see if I can keep my 2 year old RF a bit longer. I just have to check the specs on her seat. Then I can put her back there and the 4 year old in the high back booster with harness in the middle. I would definitely like to keep her harnessed as long as possible. They should just make every seat in every car able to accommodate all carseats!
