Car Seats for tall DC
I have an Alpine convertible car seat that I believe says goes up to 80lbs but DS is already even with the back of it and I would like to try to find something with a taller back on it now. I don't want to switch to a booster seat yet, I would really like to stick with the 5 point harness instead of the standard car seatbelt. Does anyone know of any? TIA

Re: Car Seats for tall DC
I believe the seat you have is the Alpha Omega Alpine print? (or so google tells me when) If this is the right seat, then it can be used with the internal harness to 40lbs and then as a belt positioning booster to 80lbs.
Is this it? http://www.babygizmo.com/p/cosco_alpha_omega_convertible_car_seat_-_alpine_blue/22151BLAE.html
If so, then the internal harness only goes to 40lbs and the harness slots are a mere 14.5". Harnessed seats are outgrown forward facing when the tops of the childs ears are even with the edge of the shell, when their shoulders are over the top harness slot (harness should be at or above the shoulders) or they exceed the weight limit.
Sounds like you need a seat that has taller harness slots and possibly a higher weight limit.
All of these seats are combination seats (harness forward facing, convert to booster) and have harness slots over 16.5" and have a higher weight limit for the internal harness than your current seat. They range in price from $70ish to $300ish
Graco Nautilus (18.5"/65lb) Britax Fronitier 85 (19.5"/85lb) Evenflo Maestro (18"/50lb) Recaro ProSport (18"/90lb) Cosco Apex 65 (17.5"/65lbs)
There are also some convertible seats that have higher slots/weight limits, such as
Sunshine Kids Radians(17"/65 or 80lbs depending on model) First Years True Fit (17"/65lbs) Evenflo Triumph 65 (16.5"/65lb) Graco MyRide (17"/65lb) Britax Marathon 70 (16"/70lb) Recaro Como (19"/70lb) Recaro Signo (17"/70lb)
Hope that helps
