car seat question/reccs
we have a 3 month old DS, and my BIL and his wife have a 2.5 month old DD. BIL mentioned that for xmas he would like us to chip in for a car seat for MIL's car. Is it okay to get one of those convertible car seats, or should we give an infant carrier? I was researching some, and I do see that they can go rear-facing. I think BIL was looking at an infant carrier, but I know DS prob won't be in there past 8 months, not sure if the convertible car seat is a better idea... I also want to get her a gift separately from this on our own, because i dont really consider this an actual gift for her... so any recs for a car seat that won't break the bank? TIA!

My DD was in her infant seat until she was 11 months old, and she was always in the 95th percentile for height and weight. Keep in mind that just because the infant carrier can come out, doesn't mean it HAS to!! But it was nice for when she got bigger and older and I didn't feel like lifting that seat with her in it, that I could leave the seat and take her out, or if she was sleeping, I could take the seat out and carry her in it.
With that being said, if you choose the convertible seat, the Graco MyRide 65 is a great seat and is RF'ing till 40lbs and isn't overly expensive, I think it's $150ish at BBB and BRU and you can use a 20% coupon on it!

I would just get a convertible seat. Infant carriers are for convenience.
Personally I would recommend the Evenflo symphony. The straps adjust very easily and there is no need to re thread. That's important when using the seat for more then one child.

I loved my evenflo triumph...the straps adjust up and down by sliding and there isn't that annoying strap to tighten the straps...its a knob on the side that you turn. I loved that carseat and wish my kids' booster seat was that easy to use!

This! We have 3 of them. Loved it so much in the one car we bought one for our 2nd car and one for MIL. We put DS in it at 4 months cause we hated carrying the infant seat.

Pretty much all of this.
Except if she is transporting two children, they may grow differently and require a different harness height. Therefore, I'd suggest a seat with a no rethread harness that can be raised/lowered to proper height without having to uninstall the seat.
Therefore I'd recommend:
Evenflo Symphony/Triumph Advance Graco Size 4 Me Britax Boulevard/Marathon learning Curve True Fit premier
All should also get the majority of children to age 2 RF.
