Car Seat Covers

Hi moms,

I'm trying to decide between a couple of different car seat covers including the posh pouch and I'm wondering if I would be able to use this for when I use the car seat in our Chicco Key Fit 30 stroller. The pics I've seen of the posh pouch have it used in a stroller with the baby facing forwards whereas I would need to use it to cover the car seat while in the stroller and my lo would be facing inside the stroller. I dont want to get the Bundle me since I dont want to use it in the car for safety concerns. I could use it for the car seat in the stroller, but then I would have to buy something like the posh pouch or some other shower cap type cover for the car seat when used in the car. Bottom line is I need to know if I can use the posch pouch for my car seat when its placed in the stroller. My daughter is 8 pounds if that helps. Thanks!

Re: Car Seat Covers

Did you use the cover with the car seat in the stroller or just with the stroller itself?

Re: Car Seat Covers

I left the cover on the Keyfit and snapped it into the stroller.

I have another stroller that I used a bundleme on but I took DD out of the carseat and used it.

What particular cover did you use for the Keyfit? I like the posh pouch and a Baby's Cozy World cover as well. Did you use the bundleme with the Keyfit? Thanks again!

Re: Car Seat Covers

I never used the Bundle Me in anything but the stroller. It's unsafe. It is great in the stroller for walks because unlike blankets it doesn't slip off when you're walking.

I like the Posh Pouch, I don't know anything about the other one. The cover I had was similar, shower cap style, but it was a BRU ESpecially for Baby that isn't made anymore.

Why is the Bundle Me unsafe? Chat Icon I've never heard this and have one I plan on using soon.

Its considered unsafe because you arent suppose to have anything come between your baby and the car seat. The shower cap type covers are safer since they go over the car seat and not under the baby.

Re: Car Seat Covers

I did not plan on my winter rant yet, but here is a preview.

When using a child safety seat, NOTHING should ever be placed between the child and the seat. If it did not come with the seat, it was not tested and is not considered safe. This is from Safe Kids, National Highway Safety Administration and the car seat manufacturers.

The Bundle me is not safe because it violates the rule of placing between the child and the seat as well as it impacts on the harness straps of the seat.

Some Bundle me's have verticle openings for the harness strap, these cause the harness straps to come away from the baby and around the shoulders. In a crash there is the potential for the baby to come out of the seat.

Some, while they have horizontal slots are not alligned properly with where the harness straps come out. Again, the harness is being affected.

Lastly, they cannot be used in a Chicco or Peg Perago because of their inserts and headrest designs.

Now, while there will be posts following mine stating how some parents have used the Bundle me and had no problems as well as the product is the best thing since the Diaper Genie, please understand that what is posted here is the reporting of safety experts involved in child safety, not the personal opinions of individuals.

The real question here is:

If there is a debate about the safety of a product, why take a chance? Especially a product that is untested for safety? The maufacturer of the Bundle me states it meets federal guidelines - a neat trick since there are none for after market products.

Use a blanket or a product that can go over the seat like a shower cap.

Yes, that's correct.

If it didn't come with the seat, it isn't tested with it and can be unsafe.

No added strap covers, head pillows/positioners, buntings/bundle mes/snuzzlers should be used with a car seat unless it came with the seat.

Have you tried adjusting the seat angle? That's the first thing to try. It's really only a concern for newborns since they can't hold their heads up and keep their airway open. If the child is old enough to hold their head up it's not a concern.
