Cape owners--Closet space

Do most Capes have closets in the upstairs bedrooms. I am browsing houses for a family member and it seems most of the capes I see have dresses and the storage (attic) space but not standard closets--is that normal. Our cape has full size closetsChat Icon

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

Both my mother and my grandmother own capes and all the rooms upstairs have big closets!
But my dad and grandfather had refinished the upstairs from full attics to rooms. All rooms also have crawlspaces too.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

we're buying a cape, and in the master bedroom there are two proper closets. in the middle bedroom upstairs is a large proper closet. the small bedroom upstairs had converted attic space as a closet. maybe it depends if the cape is dormered or not? the one we're buying is rear dormered, but we saw a few there weren't dormered, and the closets upstairs were just converted attic space.

Undormered capes? My parents house was an undormered cape, and my dad finished the attic space to be two bedrooms.

I didn't have a closet. I had sort of an alcove with a curtain in front of it. He left the middle betwene the 2 bedrooms as attic storage space though, so that probably could have been closets.

We also had crawl space accesses form the bedrooms by little sliding doors, on the short walls.

They eventually dormered & included closets.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

We have a Levitt cape and we have a small closet in our 2nd bedroom, but we tore out the closet in our master because it was too small and bought a wardrobe unit. It fits perfectly and holds more.

My in-laws cape has closets in both rooms.

Both are undormered.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

i have a rear dormered cape so i have a full closet in the spare room and a walk in closet in each downstairs bedroom (but it was extended so thats why). Big closet in the dining room but I added that. We actually have a lot of closet space for a cape. ETS but again not the original cape though.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

We have an undormered cape and the upstairs bedrooms each have a standard size closet.

down the road, when we renovate, we'll have bigger closets put in.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

Have a cape...undormered. The closets are ok but not great.

My mom has cape that is dormered in the back. The MBR has a good sized closet. In the other room there is an enormous walk in closet. She also has an attic within a huge closet in the upstairs hallway. I am jealous of that space.

Re: Cape owners--Closet space

From what I have seen, if there is either a front or back dormer, there are 'normal' closets - If not, no -
