cape canaveral
has anyone gone to see the space shuttle launch? there are only a few more launchings and DH wants to take DS to go.
What airport to fly?
What hotels?
Would it be crazy if they made a quick WDW visit - 1-2 days?

I have never been but Orlando is less then an hour away so that's totally doable. Cocoa Beach, Titusville, Melbourne and Merritt Island are the cities on the NASA/Kennedy Space Center website as suggested places to stay.
I think there's an airport in Melbourne but Orlando probably has more and possibly less expensive flight options.

Yes we did this.
Fly into Orlando, go to WDW then onto the launch. Be prepared to wait a while. You need to get there early so you can get a good spot. People are stopped on every road around the space center. Find a place to wait that is near a bathroom!  Bring food, snacks and water. And if you want to sit, lawn chairs. Have small children? Bring things for them to keep busy.
