Canon Powershot Cameras-error messages

I have had the SD450 for a year and a half and all of the sudden, when I turn it on, I get a "memory card error" message. I thought about changing the card but they are $$ so I did a little research online and it appears that Canon, at least with other powershot models, has this problem a lot. It is not associated with the memory card but an internal error in the camera. I tried to troubleshoot on the Canon website but of course that area of the website was not working. Has anyone else experienced it? If so, How was Canon about fixing it? From what I have read it is a "defect" but they aren't fixing it for free??? WTH??

I do have a 4 year Best Buy service plan so if I don't get anywhere with Canon I may call them. Last time I called Best Buy for my old camera the service plan covered almost nothing!!!

Take it to Best Buy and let them handle the problem for you. They will ship the camera to Canon instead of you doing all the work.

Both of my powershots did this to me and I was unable to fix it.

I thought the first one was a fluke, but then the second one did the exact same thing.

I'm turned off by Canons for the rest of my camera-buying life.

Call Canon directly. I had the same problem and they fixed it for free, despite being almost 4 years old.
