Cancer Hot spots???
I am doing some research....but so hard to come up with info.
Does anyone know what towns on LI are listed or "rumored" to have cancer clusters?
FYI i am an oncology nurse and this topic interests me soo much.

2nd Ave in Bayport!! I swear at least 5 people died in a VERY short section of the block. There was a small airport at the end of the block and we always wondered if it had anything to do with it.

I would look up the term Superfund Site. To the best of my knowledge there are 7 such sites in Nassau county and 6 in Suffolk county. If I were a betting woman, I would look for clusters near them....

newsday did an article on this a few years back, it listed towns & streets.
Cancer clusters freak me out 
I remember my friend had to do a research report in college on the Cancer Cluster in the island trees section of Levittown.
This was 10 years ago, so not sure how much stuff is out there now.

I'm not sure how true it is, but I grew up/work in West Islip & it's been said for years that the area around Union Blvd. & the high school are (and maybe south of Montauk, but I'm not sure). The Dzus factory was on Union & there's a stream that runs off from the area all the way behind the high school. There's supposedly a high incidence of breast cancer in the area...
ETA: I forgot to mention that the Dzus site's a superfund site.

This was a while ago. My Nana who lived on 2nd Ave died of colon cancer in 1996...my grandfather also died of cancer many years before her. Her next door neighbor died of colon cancer last year and from what I remember almost 1 person for each household surounding her also died of cancer. She lived towards the end near the airport...her # was 476 I think.

This actually really factored into where we looked for a home. My in laws live in St. James and on their LONG block, one person AT LEAST from every house has or had cancer. Many, many people I went to school with have parents who had cancer in the same area of St. James.
There's parts of Rocky Pt. that scare me and Miller Place. I mean, I have no official records or research, but something about those areas of Suffolk scare me.
