Can you recco your vacuum?
I need a new one asap and have no clue what to get! I mostly have area rugs and hardwood floors, but do have wall to wall on my lower level. Also need something lightweight for the stairs.

kenmore canister it is great and easy to switch from HW to carpet.

i love how light it is and how great the suction is. it has a bag - a lot of people like bagless b/c they are 'easy' but the suction isn't the same. changing the bag on it is SO easy so i really don't mind it - i love how it performs so i really feel it is worth it.

I actually bought an old school Electrolux. They don't sell them in stores. You have to go to an actual Electrolux store. It was very expensive, but a great vacuum and will last forever. My MIL has had hers for 20 years. It is not bagless though.
