no that's not true....I got a phone line installed 2 days ago at my parents house, off of their modem. It's only $14...

I think it's up to two per modem.
My dad has it for work and has 4 phones lines, 2 on each modem.

You may have to switch to a multi line modem. But YES you can have it. Actually you can have a total of 4 in your home at one line with different phone numbers. Each line in addtion to your mail one is $14.95 each.
(I used to work there)
