Can we extend some prayers to the people of Victoria, Australia today.
It was declared a national day of mourning after the DEVASTING fires that have been raging for days now.
almost 200 people lost their lives. thousand of people lost their homes. entire town are basically burned to the ground.
I have family that lives in Melbourne, and thankfully to my knowledge nothing was destroyed...but it is just awful what is happening there.
even MORE awful...some of the fires they believe were started by arsonists...including the one that wiped out almost 1/5th of a towns population.
simple and utter devastation

I've been seeing this on the news the last few days. It's just awful. I didn't realize some of the fires were from arsonist.

I have tons of family in Australia.
thankfully they werent affected (theyre in Melbourne) but my heart is heavy for those that are in Victoria affected by the fires.

One of the greatest researchers in ornithology died in that fire. 
Awful that anyone died, but I felt like I knew him since I knew his work.

It's really horrible. It has been the main story all week. Luckily, I don't know anyone who lives there and I live about 10 hours away from where the bushfires (they call them bushfires here) happened. I live in NSW.
They expect the toll to rise to 300. It is really horrible. I hear of friends who are waiting to hear from family. .
The koala story is killing me. I plan to donate to the RSPCA (ASPCA over in the US), b/c I feel many people overlook the animals. Don't get me wrong I've donated to charities for people (a national supermarket, Coles, is donating everything they sell on Friday to the bushfire victims, and I've saved my shopping until then).
Many people are planning to donate their stimulus checks (which we are doing at the moment) to those in need. It's so sad.
ETA: It was sooooo hot here last week and now we are having tons of rain. I wish it would go down to where they really need it.
ETA, again: Most bushfires here are started by people. People need to take heed when they say no fire zone.
