can we adopt a puppy or dog
Without a vet reference? We haven't had a pet in 9 years and the vet I did have is in S.C and doesn't keep records that far back 
What is the process at NSAL? How long is the process?

We adopted from Brookhaven Animal Shelter and didn't need a vet reference.
Although we did have one since we already had a dog.

we JUST adopted out pup from NSAL... we did not have a vet reference.... we just had to fill out an application and gave MIL and DH's best friend as our references... they called them and asked them all sorts of questions... we paid $175 and got our pup!!
the whole process took about an hour and a half

If you go to a town shelter, there is usually no checkup and the process is short. Plus it's cheaper to adopt a dog.
NSAL will check references and make phone calls and require a larger donation.

When we adopted Lana from NSAL we did not need a vet reference, however, when we adopted Harley from Save a Pet in Pt. Jeff, they did need to contact our Vet.
