Re: Camping with Kids
I went camping 20 weeks pregnant, and also with a 9 month old. We went to KOA campsites with friends. They are VERY kid friendly. They have firetruck rides, and usually games and big playgrounds so they get out of parents' hair.
Totally not REAL camping because they have showers and toilets, but we've had fun both times because we're just hanging out!
With the amount of people you have, I would definitely get 2 sites together, one is not enough.

Just curious, is this in Greenport?
If so, I highly recommend it! I've been there since 1983 My parents started working there when the new owners took over about 12 years ago or so. My mom passed away in 2008 and my dad still works there when the campground is open (May thru Nov) It's something he doesn't want to give up.
I love taking my kids here!

The KOA campsites are all over NY state. We've been to 2 upstate in the Catskills.
Hither Hills is out east, but from what I understand, it is hard to get a spot to stay there.

Re: Camping with Kids
I go camping with my family every year. We did Indian Island the first time this year and will keep going back. We used to do Cedar Point and liked them too.
Both have beaches and play grounds. Indian Island is in Riverhead so it is very easy to run out to a LOT of stores if you run out or want to pick stuff up. They don't have a camp store for ice or wood. Cedar Point is kinda more remote and you have to deal with a LOT of traffic since it is just pass the Hamptons. They do have a camp store so that is nice.
Smiths Point has a great beach, but my brother has had problems with the 'locals' the last two times. The last straw was when they went down teh row of tents and campers and stole peoples coolers to get teh beer. They left the food. My brother has a dog so they didn't get his stuff.
You can camp at Southaven and go to Hither Hills for the beach. Close enough drive. I didn't like Southaven because the sites were close together and no seperation between them.
I didn't like Hither Hills because there were NO trees so it was HOT. Plus, it's Montauk and that is way too far.
ETA I heard great things about Wildwood, but have never been. If you want to travel upstate, I highly suggest North South Lake.

Re: Camping with Kids
We go camping every year and stay at Jerry's Three River Campgrounds. They have this one campsite (Bass Site) which is right on the Delaware river and is huge. It'd be perfect!
Click me!
ETA: It's in Pond Eddy, NY
