Re: camping at fire island?
We never camped, but just came back last week from a week renting a house in Ocean Bay Park.
Anyway, we packed very conservatively you carry everything with you on the ferry and they will charge for extra bags beyond the limit. You can send larger items, extra bags and food over on the feight boat. Two of us used those rolling luggage carriers to stack bags. Last year we had a shopping/laundry cart to throw things in. Once on FI the house was a short walk and we used their wagon as well. Whats the name of the campsite? I saw some hotels were picking people and theor luggage up at the ferry with golf carts.
Also I placed an order with a beer distibutor and Shop Rite of Bay Shore and they delivered right tot the freight boat and it was waiting for us in OBP. Food can be expensinve over there so we made sure we had plenty of the basics we needed.
Here is the ferry and freight boat website, they seem pretty serious especially in season, we went when its was "quiet" and they still charged us for extra bags (better than telling us to bring it to the freight boat)
