Cake Balls

So, I am dying to make these for DS Christening party... Are they as simple to make as they sound?

All I have to do is
- bake cake normally
- crumble and mix with frosting
- roll into balls
- refrigerate
- dip in chocolate/candy
Right?

Re: Cake Balls

I tested them out with the thought that I would make them as favors for the christening

they came out amazing! I made carrot cake ones with white chocolate and oreo ones with chocolate

I wasnt happy with how they looked- they didnt have that bakerella perfection- they looked messy

try them out though, they werent bad to make

Re: Cake Balls

They were really easy! i probably made around that many (2 boxes of mix; 1 chocolate and 1 golden cake)

The only advice I have it to not put too much frosting in or it won't stay together.. I made some that were cake pops (with lollipop sticks and some without)

hope the pics work

i agree with this. do not put to much frosting in. I attempted to make red velvet ones last week and they did not come out well and I am pretty sure its because i put much frosting in it.

I made the cake and frosting from scratch and i relaized after the fact the frosting recipe was enough to fill and ice 2 9inc round cakes which is way to much frosting Chat Icon i plan to do it again but this time only adding waht the recipe calls for which i think is 2 cups of frosting. i may do a little less

Also it really isnt taht hard you can probably get a 100 out of 2 cakes depending how big you make them

what chocolate did you use for these? did you dye white choclate or did use the colored choclate already?
if you used the colored chocolate what kind?

I ask cause i was told that you shouldnt use the ones that you can get a like acmoore cause those are really only good for lolipops and chocolate molds!

really ok than i will follow that. i took a cupcake baking class and i asked the teacher and she said i think to use one cup per box of cake which is half a tub but i am pretty sure the reciepieon bakerella says to use the whole tub!

I've made the oreo truffles like 20 times. They are time consuming and find them to just be a pain in the butt haha but they are SO worth it in the end. I get annoyed having to do 50, nevermind 100! God bless you,can you make them during lunch one day so I can come over Chat Icon Chat Icon

oh no, the full tub is too much.. just put like 2 big spoonfuls in and start kneading it.. the constistency should be truffle like.. if it's still cakey, add more ;O)

Thanks girl.. Def do NOT kill yourself!

the only thing I'd do different next time is just make them all the same color dip and toppings.. it got messy doing that part, especially with my kids "helping" lolChat Icon Thanks!

Re: Cake Balls

Love making oreo truffles or pops. When I do cake pops I use a tub of whipped cream cheese instead of frosting so it's not as sweet and you can taste more of the cake flavor. Either way is very easy. It does take a little practice so I would definitely do a trial run.

I made them for DD's Christening. I think it was the 3rd time I made them.

And like bicosi, I put them in the freezer too.

BTW - I don't recommend these pink pearl sprinkles. They feel like pebbles in your mouth! Chat Icon

Wow, I totally want to make these for DS's Christening!! They look awesome.

I was trying to figure something out and I don't like chocolate lollipops because that much of the chocolate usually makes me sick, but this little bit I can totally handle.

ETA: Oh my goodness I just checked out the bakerella site and I love the cupcake bites too!! DH's co-workers are just going to have to be my guinea pigs as I learn how to make all of these! Chat Icon
