Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
Hi ladies,
I had not had a drop of caffeine since I started the cycle that led to this pregnancy. It's been nearly seven weeks. I LOVE fountain Diet Coke and broke down and had some yesterday. Now I feel quite guilty. Just wondering what your Dr.'s say about caffeine in general and/or Diet Coke specifically. Thanks.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
in moderation, i still have coffee, tea, iced tea, chocolate. I just try not to have it all in one day.
However... I would see what your dr says about "diet" drinks as they have artificial sweeteners. That is something I stay far away from.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I was really strict during the first trimester - I had 2 cans of coke during my first trimester and that was it. I didn't want to tempt fate or up my chances of a m/c at all. Now that I've only got 13 weeks to go, I don't feel the need to start drinking caffeine now.
My dr said 1 cup, preferably of decaf, a day is fine. However, you really want to stay away from diet sodas entirely b/c that's just feeding your baby chemicals. If you want fountain soda, I'd stick to Sprite since it's not diet and doesn't have caffeine.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
When I was pregnant my OB actually recommended I drink a cup of caffeine a day- small coffee, tea, etc I have a history of kidney stones and they can be aggrevated by pregnancy He said the caffeine would have a slight diuretic effect and keep me peeing- which would help to prevent sludge from sitting in my kidneys and forming stones
So if he actually TOLD me to drink it daily in moderation, I figured how bad could it be?
As far as diet- I only drank a diet soda like once a month. I stuck to regular mostly

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
In the beginning I could not stand the smell of coffee so I stayed away from it. Once I got out of that phase- I have one cup in the morning, and sometimes a sip during the afternoon.

I drink Dr. Pepper and Coca Cola if I get a craving, or I go with Root Beer because it doesn't have caffeine. Stay away from diet.....

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I barely drank caffeine in the first two trimesters. But, by the time I hit 30 weeks, started drinking again. I'm now almost 36 weeks and have about 12oz of coffee a day.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I'm allowed 1 cup of coffee per day. I drink soda (ginger ale) occasionally at home. I never even thought about the caffeine content in that; but i figure it's not much and not every day.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
My doctor is really strict and says no caffeine. From what I've read I am comfortable with having one or two cups a day, although I usually keep it at one. I tried to avoid it more in the first trimester.
You can look around online for how much caffeine is in different products. Sodas usually have way less than a cup of coffee if that makes you feel better!

Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
i try to stay away from caffeine as much as possible. If you really feel the need, try an orange soda, like Sunkist, Ginger Ale or Sprite that have no caffeine in them. Stay away from Diet Soda's in general - they are loaded with artificial sweetners and that just not healthy with all the chemicals. My Dr. hasn't said anything at all about the caffeine - but i would assume everything in moderation

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
Im drinking a Cherry Coke as i type this LOL My Dr. actually said not to worry about Caffeine, that it is not a big deal as past studies have said, that newer ones said it has no effect. I was very shocked and happy to hear. My Dr. said to feel free to eat as much shrimp as i want so that's been awesome! I always been one of those overly paranoid pregnant people who do no caffeine at all, no tuna, no coldcuts etc. I probably do 2 cans on caffienated soda a day if i have it in the house but I drank mostly Ginger Ale this pregnancy. I like coffee but I havent felt the need to drink it while pregnant. I do drink alot of hot chocolate and eat a crapload of chocolate daily. It's been a far more relaxing pregnancy and so far the most healthy one.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I *was* addicted to fountain diet.
Everyone will tell you "stay away from the diets" but the only one you want is diet. haha. i know how it is.
I've had 2 fountain caffeine free diets since I got my BFP. Other than that, no soda. Id rather have none if it's not diet.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
You can have a small cup of coffee or tea I was told. I don't drink diet soda bc the fake sugar. You can have anything in moderation you are fine.

Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I do decaf, but I top it off on the weekends with a little regular hazelnut for flavor. I sip DH's soda once in a while. I would say in 21 weeks the small amounts I've had have added up to two cups of regular coffee. But I should also add I stay away from caffeine in general because it upsets my stomach. And I should also add that small amounts of caffeine generally seem ok by most docs.

Re: Caffeine- What does your Dr say?
I drink a cup of diet coke a few times a week. My doctor said it's fine. Aspartame actually does not cross the placenta, but caffeine does.
