Caffeine/Coffee
Was wondering how many of you cut out coffee/ caffeine completely after you found out you were pregnant?
I pretty much stopped drinking coffee/caffinated sodas but find I am so sluggish. The days where I have half a cup a day seem to get my energy levels up, but I'm torn since my doctor recommended cutting down to 12oz a day and cutting it out completely if I could.
Just wondering what you ladies have done and how you have coped.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
i never drank coffee but would have a cup of tea every day and drank diet pepsi often. I cut out all of that caffeine after I found out I was pregnant.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
Pre-pregnancy, I would have 1 -2 cups (big cups) of coffee a day, plus iced tea or diet pepsi.
I cut down to just the one cup in the am for a while, but the coffee was making me sick with nausea and heartburn, so i cut it out.
Now, I can drink it, but I try to have decaf. Every so often, if I need a boost, or if I have a headache, I'll have a small cup of regular coffee or tea....
The diet pepsi - I've had like two small cups in 3 months...I tried to cut that more for the artificial sweetner than the caffeine...

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
When I started at the RE's office last spring I decided that I would cut it out completely over the summer. I'm a teacher and not having a schedule made it easier. I found pre-pregnancy but also post caffeine that I had WAY more energy.
Now I only have it when I am craving cherry pepsi. once every few weeks.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I had a lot of caffeine pre-pregnancy but at some point I read its bad for TTC so I cut it down to 1 cup a day. I went cold turkey with nothing for 2 weeks and it was so hard! but then after the headaches wore off I went back to 1 cup a day and I have it at lunch so the caffeine gets me thru the rest of the day.
If I'm really tired in the am I do half caf/half decaf with more decaf

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I cut down to 12-16 oz. of coffee every morning. I was not willing to cut it out. It's bad enough I had to switch to mocktails.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I have 1 cup a day in the morning. My doc said it was okay to have 1-2 cups. So maybe once a week I'll have my coffee in the morning and then a fountain coke with ice if we're out to eat.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
my docs said its ok to have a cup or two of tea/coffee or soda a day (as far as caffeine goes)
so if i'm ever sluggish, i'll have one to help give a boost.
i drink tea almost daily, and have a soda every few days (its hard when i've got nothing else to drink at social functions!)

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
pre-pg i would have 3-ish cups a day. for the first few weeks, i was still having 1 cup every morning. and then...
the mere smell of it would make me throw up. now at 14w i am having a small iced coffee some days. ok most days. unless i'm too lazy to go get one.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I cut it out completely for a while - mostly because I was incredibly sick. At this point (19wks) I have a caffiene once or twice a week, and it definitely gives me the boost I need at times.

a cup of decaf a few times a week.
Me too, and if I needed soda I would drink orange soda which is caff free. I am not a soda drinker at all, but sometimes I need it. Edit for spelling

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I have the Keurig coffee maker and I was always a huge fan of Green Mountain's Breakfast Blend. Every morning I have a cup of the Breakfast Blend Decaf...so good!!! I've stayed away from caffeine my entire pregnancy.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I limited my coffee to decaf (a few times a week) during the 1st trimester, however, now at 23 weeks, I will have a regular cup every so often (never more than 2 times a week). My doctor said it is ok to have up to 200mg a day of caffiene. Soooo, if I binge on chocolate one day, I try to stay away from the caffinated beverages.

Re: Caffeine/Coffee
I was told I could have up to 200 mg of caffeine a day. I'm not a coffee drinker but I do drink soda and one can of regular soda only has 35 mg of caffeine, much less than a cup of coffee so I havnt really had to cut back at all
