CAC outside unit overheating??
we put in CAC 2 years ago and haven't had a problem. this past week the outside unit has been shutting off on its own. of course its when we're not home so by the time we get home the house is 84 degrees!! The only fix is to reset the breaker and then the unit will come back on after a few minutes.
DH stayed home today and the people who installed it have come twice already. the first time they moved the AC to another breaker. an hour after they left the unit shut off. next thing was to put a timer on the unit so when it reaches a certain temp to turn off and then a few minutes later come back on. because apparently the unit is overheating and tripping the breaker?
DH just called me that it shut off again! the company is coming back a 3rd time. has anyone gone through this?? do i need to replace my breakers? should the unit be overheating this much?? We have the prestige rheem 3.5 ton 15 seer.
Thanks!!

Re: CAC outside unit overheating??
That is bizarre as I have had a 4 ton 16 seer and a 5 ton 18 seer Rheem and never had any overheating issues.
Sounds like the condenser is malfunctioning which is tripping the breaker.
Try calling another CAC company for a second opinion. I have one if you need a referral. (FM)

This or the compressor. Had this happen.
Mine was older though.

Re: CAC outside unit overheating??
With the unit off hose down the unit and get all the dirt off the coils it sounds like it is not getting enough air circulation to it. After cleaning it turn it back on it should be ok after that.

Re: CAC outside unit overheating??
Turns out the unit gave a pressure error code on the unit and it was a faulty valve in the attic!! They're ordering a new one but can take 2 days. Oy vey!!
