Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
We switched from Cablevision to Fios a year ago. Cablevision constantly calls to get us back but tonight they came to the door.
DS was crying in the background; the man heard him and offered to come back another time. We agreed on tomorrow after two. I doubt we will switch (and I told him that) but I was curious what they had to offer.
Then I thought about it more: I don't know who this guy is. He flashed me a badge but it was from far away so I have no clue what it said. Is Cablevision really making house sales calls?
Not that it's out of the realm of possibility, it just seemed strange and I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience?
I'm not going to get murdered, am I?
Is it very rude if I don't invite him in?
Ugh, I shouldn't have told him to come back.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
This happened to us after we switched to FIOS. On two different occasions a sales rep came to our door with a plastic badge around his neck (around 8:30 pm no less!) trying to do a hard sell to get us to switch back. We didn't let them in the house- they just talked to us at the front door.
There's a phone number you can call to have cablevision stop calling you. The automated service warns you at the end that it takes 30 days for them to remove you from their list

They did the same to us. We ended up switching back because the price was unbeatable.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
I think someone mentioned on here that when they come to the door you get the mega deals - like $60 for triple play?
but this is second hand

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
They definitley do come door to door. I had one come to my door - she had old info about the previous owner (3 years later) who had switched awhile before selling. We considered switching for the price, but ultimately, we like Verizon and didn't want to change.
The rep was a wacko - kept calling me on my cell - even at 10pm one night. That turned me off to Cablevision completely - and I told her supervisor so when he called to try to "save the sale". I get wanting to make a sale - but seriously learn to take no for an answer eventually!

Yes the door to door salesman come with the good deals. The REALLY good deals. The deals you can't get by calling customer service, retention, or phone sales.
If you are even remotely thinking about switching back, hear the guy out for 10 minutes.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
One day I came home from work. Got home before DH. I never saw this cable sales man walking around. I came in the house turned around to take my keys out of the door and the guy was literally right behind me almost in my house. Scared the $hit out of me and I went off on him. he thought it was funny! I really thought I was going to be attacked.
I called Cablevision told them what happened told them what an a$$hole this guy was and said that if he was ever at my doorstep again I was calling 911.

Same.
The guy actually just came the other day and I signed the paper work to switch back. I got 2 years at under $100 for the TP, 3 boxes, free DVR as well as other stuff.
Also as a former employee, I can say YES they do have staff whose job it is to go to the doors of those who have switched and win them back!

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
OMG they came to my door today in the freezing cold! I was trying to get my son to rest on the couch so I could get some work done and when the guy knocked my son raced to the door and opened it! I hate when they come to the door because it freaks me out!

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
Def. worth listening too. I had Fios, no problems at all, I liked Fios very much, But when Cablevision told me 78.00 for triple play, optimum boost, and free dvr, for 2 yrs, I went back. When the rate goes up after that, I will go back to FIOS..I Recieved something in the mail from FIOS for 64.99 triple play, after taxes and fees, closer to 8o bucks, But I am sure it will be cheaper then what Cablevision will jack my price up too. Dont be afraid to say NO to first offer he throws you,,Tell him you want Optimum boost and DVR Included in price..I have heard some people getting it all for 69.99..so def. play hard ball back.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
Yes they do have door to door. And to make it even worse, the door to door guys get a CRAZY commission for each customer they get back to optimum (I have a friend who is actually one of the door to door reps). Meanwhile, my cable bill is over $220 a month, when I called cablevision, their answer was lower your service. FIOS is not available where I live (Ronkonkoma) and I do not want satellite (I live in apt complex and need to have approval from LL, plus they are ugly). So, I am the one paying the high bill so that cablevision can go out and get customers back and pay their high commissions and offer the people who jumped ship crazy deals. It just is not fair.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
I had remembered reading this post, so I just searched for it because it just happened to me! I looked through the window and saw the guy, but didn't know what it was about, and DH isn't home, so I didn't want to answer it. Add in 2 barking dogs, and a guy who wouldn't stop knocking...I ended up answering the door. So now I'm standing outside in the cold with him, and he's going on and on about the great deals. No thanks! I don't like this door-to-door solicitation!

Yeah, there is something unsettling about men going door to door in the middle of the day, unannounced.
I wonder how much response they get - aren't they getting mostly SAHMs or people who work from home, neither of whom could possibly have much time for them? Then again, I did answer the door.
We ended up not switching back; the deal was not that great. It would have been exactly what we pay for FIOS now, except with free DVR and Stars and Encore for a year. Nice, but not worth it. Especially without the multiroom DVR.
When we switched to FIOS we got a $150 visa gift card along with a few months of extras. Now that was worth it.

Re: Cablevision sales reps going door to door?
one guy comes to my dad's house once a week.
they are willing to lower his price and beat FIOS' price -- *and* give him more features, more extras, at a cheaper price than he ever paid with them before -- and he had them for years and years and years. BUT that doesn't take away the fact that they ripped him off for allllll those years while they knew they could because they had NO competition. so, now he's not going back just to spite them lol!

Don't ever worry if it's rude not to invite a stranger into your home. FIOS was going door to door when DH and I first moved into our house and the guy asked if he could come in and DH said I'd rather you didn't and then he stepped outside to speak with him. We ended up signing up for FIOS and the guy wrote up the ticket in his car.
When DH isn't home and someone knocks on the door, I won't even open the door. I don't care how rude it is, better safe than sorry.

I have DirecTV here in TX too. I dropped my phone line Time warner annoys the living ba-jeebies out of me.
Oddly enough a DirecTV guy came to my door and my hubby was like "That's your dish out there buddy"
Otherwise my answer to AT&T who always asks (they have my internet) is... $400 cash and I'll consider your offer. That's the cost to break my contract.
