Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
Ok, so we just added the Optimum Cablevison phone plan to our account. The phone thatisplugged into the modem is working fine. I asked the installer if we can just plug in the other cordless phones into the wall, and he said, yes, you just plug them in and they'll work.
Well they don't. Our theory is that the need a phone cord to work, os becuae there's no cord they don't work.
We are assuming they make phones that don't need a phone cord? Ones that are purely digital We looked at Target but were confused over which ones would work.
Can anyone please help? I'm so confused about this!!!

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
hmmm... our set has a base (that gets plugged into the modem) and 2 other receivers... those just need power, no phone cable.
That's a little weird!

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
Are the other phones you're trying to use part of a set that came with the main base? For example, we have a main base and then it came with a second phone that we have in the bedroom. This one just has to be plugged into an outlet. If the phones you're trying to use are not part of a set, then I would think they'd have to be plugged into the modem because they can't "connect" with the main base.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
if you plug the phone into the wall, then you can plug other phones into other jacks if the connection to the main incoming phone line is cut. Don't quote me on this i'm not sure if the main incoming line has to be disconnected or not. All the jacks are tied together in your house.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
Well we don't have wall phone jacks - I told the installer this and he said it didn't matter.
They aren't part of a set, but when we had wired phones that didn't matter. He said all we had to do was plug in receivers.
We only have one phone that has one extra receiver. I really don't want to spend almost $100 when we have several sets of perfectly working phones.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
so let me get this straight as your post is confusing...
you have another portable phone and receiver that doesn't work when you plug in the "power" cord?
you might have to configure the 2nd portable phone to work with the main phone.
If they are not in the same set, then this will not work. If you have 2 totally different brands , this will not work.
You can find a set of phones for about 50 bucks online or at costco and such.
let me know if this is your problem as i misread your original post.

This is what we have - we have uniden phones that we like - the main set is plugged into the modem and the others just into an electrical outlet - we have used them for a few years now and love them.

Same for us.
In order for the other phones to work, they have to be part of the base phone. They may need to be placed in the based to be connected with the charger (look at the phone directions for this) and then they should work. If it's different phones - like one is a uniden, one is vtech, etc, it won't work.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
Thanks. I guess the problem is that they're not from the same set. So frustrating. We need to have 4 handsets, and I haven't found any non-phone cord ones for less than about $80.

Do you really need 4 handsets if you go with cordless? With a cordless system, you only need one main base which can have the answering machine (or go with OOL’s answer machine) and is connected directly to the modem. The other wireless phones have bases used to charge the phone. When the phone is off the base you can go anywhere in the house. You might consider a three set.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
We need 4... one for the office where the main one is, one for the LR on the other side of the house, one for the basement... and one for the bedroom so we can hear it in there. We have the one plugged in now and we leave it in the LR ad it keeps getting low battery.

Re: Cablevision Optimum Phone Question!
I would try running some phone cords to various rooms, especially the basement. You just need a run of phone cord, and a hole from the modem through the floor to the basement. Then, you can hang the phone cord from the ceiling to wherever you want the phone.
Also, if you have more than one base unit, you can get two 2-unit sets, and cover the entire house without spending a lot for the 2nd set.
