cable bill
My cable bill is insane. I get the movie channels and pay $160 a month, which I think may be a good deal but just seems so high and wasteful.
Is there a way to watch HBO and not have it? I have Roku?

Legally? Maybe not. But if you have someone else's hbo go login you can watch on your roku if it's a new enough model.

$160 for all the movie channels - and I assume Internet, too? - That's cheap!

holy crap! thats REALLY good! haha I pay 158 and have basic family cable... no HBO showtime or anything like that. we have three boxes and all three services (if we cancel one it will go up...)
as far as getting HBO without paying for it... i agree that legally probably not, but you can use a family members login maybe to watch it. instead.

HBO Go is for people who are subscribers. HBO Now is a separate service that provides HBO access for an additional amount, not sure what it is.

AH! oops. I assumed thats what you meant. I tried HBO go. not Now. :) I have to look into Now and see what that's about! Thanks!

They just told me $14.95.
ETA - Sorry read post wrong, I thought you were saying now it is $8, not HBO NOW as a service.

No it includes everything, apparently i am on the silver package.
There was nothing they could do because they have a movie channel promotion, so only to cancel HBO. But the guy was so nice and credited me $15 a month for 2 months so I could continue watching Divorce lol.
Then when the show is over I can cancel HBO.

This thread inspired me to call Cable - I have the Silver package too with phone/internet... and the lowest they would give me is 178 plus tax.

Yes that is what I have, apparently I am taking advantage of all their discounts, insist and speak with customer retention.

I would love to do this too, but I don't even really know what this means, or how to do it?

You would only get basic cable and internet from Optimum. Then you could stream Sling, Netflix, Hulu, and all the other On Demand services through an Apple TV, Roku or Firestick.
I priced it all out and I would save $60 a month if I do this. Just have to make sure DH is on board.

We did this years ago and it still cost over $100 a month. If you only get broadcast basic it was essentially 13 channels for $13 a month but you pay much more for Internet bc it's not considered triple play. Such a pain.

Optimum Online is $59.95 and you can get broadcast basic for $16 month, so at $76 plus $11 for Netflix, $7 for HULU and $25 for Sling, it's still around $120
