C-section scheduled
I can say this..with my dd I pushed for 2 5 hours after being induced and wound up with c-section. Recovery was tough. I was in pain for 2 weeks. I bled a lot. With ds I had scheduled c-section. What a difference. I wasvirtu

Oops...continued...I was virtually pain free. Besides Motrin I took no pain killers. I was bending the day after! It was a world of difference! It is 2 weeks to the day today and I feel fabulous. Oh and I stopped bleeding over the weekend. The only issues I had were constipation and pain peeing when catheter was removed. What questions do you have? I'd be glad to answer...

Re: C-section scheduled
I had 2 csections...
The first one was with my older DS who was overdue. I was scheduled at 41 weeks because he was breech, very high up and estimated to be huge. My second csection was with my twins at 38 weeks exactly after my water broke. My recovery for both was pretty much the same... awesome! I never took any pain meds with my son, but did take motrin with the twins bc I was constantly up and down and was feeling a little pain. I was up and walking around the very next day with both. I had some complications with my incision opening up after I got home the second time around, but that wasn't really avoidable bc I had a tremendous buildup of fluids. Oh and I spent the 6 hours following both surgeries throwing up bc I don't do very well with the anesthesia.

Re: C-section scheduled
Schedule C-section is much different than an emergency c. Better recovery too. You are not recovering from the labor as well. I also think the spinal is better than epi.
Best advise I got... Don't be a hero. The anesthesiologist is there to make sure you are comfy as possible. You are paying for the meds they offer. Use it!!! If you feel the slightest bit nauseous then tell him and he will give you anti-nausea meds.
The Docs were great and I had the best nurses. She kept talking to me the entire time. I was SOOO scared of the spinal and it was nothing. I am a baby too. Use the meds and when you feel better just take an ibuprofen. My first DS was a crash c. Not only was I recovering from labor, but being under. It was TERRIBLE. Scheduled c was a breeze. Keep walking as much as possible, take it slow. THe gas was the most painful, but walking and gas meds help. You'll do great!!

ITA!! don't be try and be a hero.. take the meds when needed and you will have such a better experience. My girlfriend told me that going into it and I took the advice and had such a great recovery.

Re: C-section scheduled
My 2nd c-section was scheduled and it was a breeze!
So much easier, than my 1st emergency c-section. I remember the whole procedure, and wasn't out of it at all.

C-section scheduled
I was very lucky. It was super easy, it won't be the same for everyone. I asked like 1.5 billion questions before so I'm there with ya. When I was in PACU (I had two surgeries so I was out all the way), they gave me stuff for pain, no biggie, I was cold, I got a blanket, my legs were shaky from the anesthesia wearing off BUT that was normal. The best advice the ladies gave me was to walk around as soon as they let you. I was afraid of the shower because of the incision but I was very well protected and I would have slept in there :). Walk slowly, do stairs, gently while holding your belly, you will be good to go. Please don't over do it and best of luck!!!

Re: C-section scheduled
Things I wish I knew for my emergency unplanned-for c-section:
-you will need help at all times with baby in your room (couldn't lift from bassinet on my own, whether in bed or standing)
-walk, walk, walk!
-have 2 people go home with you: one to take baby in/out of car, one assigned to helping you
-have at home high-waisted granny panties. Low rise are awful against the incision site
-take it day by day. Take the 5 days in the hospital if you can.
-expect massively swollen ankles and "bags" around your midsection. These will both go down after a few days. I cried when I saw my body. You are pumped with tons of fluid.
-after the c-section, they will not let you eat solids until you pass gas

ITA with walking. Does help a lot. I didn't have to wait to pas gas till I ate. I believe it was 24 hours. Although I didn't have much of an appetite anyway. Broth and apple juice I remember. Also, I never got swollen ankles. Sorry that happened to you. DH stayed with me for both boys so he helped, but by the 2nd night I was able to get up on my own and get the baby. Also, use the hospital underwear. Take some home too along with lots of pads. Take theirs too. Oh, and bring a boppy. Wish I remembered that. I only stayed 3 nights and felt better at home. The sched c was a faster recovery and I had a 2 yr old.

Re: C-section scheduled
Ater 36 hours of labor, pushing for 4 1/2 hours I ended up having an emergency c section 20 days ago. Today, I feel FANTASTIC!!!!
the C-section it self was not bad at all. I had already had an epi for pushing so they reupped it and gave me additional meds. By the time I had the C section I was beyond exhausted. I had my c on Friday morning at 5am and was not allowed out of bed till Saturday when they removed the catheter. Getting out of bed and walking the first time was HARD. I was perscibed percoset and motrin. I was in the hospital for 4 nights. The first 2 days I took the pain meds around the clock. By the time I was released I only took the percoset in the monring and was totally done with all pain meds 6 days post surgery.
Make sure to WALK WALK WALK in the hospital. Also drink a ton of water. Beting that I was induced I had a ton of excess fluid and my whole lower body swelled to the point where I had trouble bending my legs. The doctor said swelling is normal but I had excessive and they ended up gving me lasix for the swelling, which they do not normally do as I was so swollen. It was a combo of being in labor for so long and all the fluids. I esentially got fluids for 4 days! I bled for about 2 weeks, nothing excessive. I still have trouble holding my bladder btu it's getting better.
Best advice I can give is to WALK WALK WALK. Take the pain meds in the beginning as perscribed. Stay on top of them. when I waited it was so much worse. You will know when you can wait. Have help arranged to help you out at home. 3 weeks out and I still am told I can't lift anything heavier than DD. Pack very high waisted underware! I'm still wearing them as regular bikini's tends to irritate my incision. Pack pants with a high waist. I live in victoria's secret yoga pants right now. Order a few extra pairs so your not doing laundry around the clock. bring a pair of comfy shoes with you (maybe slippers) in case you swell. I could'nt put regular shoes on for 2 weeks. I was wearing my minnetonka'. And also know that you might need help getting DC out of the bassinet and into bed with you in the hospital.
Good luck! it really wasn't that bad at all. and i'm a wimp so if I can do it anyone can!
