C section ?

If you have a c section do you have a choice of getting staples or stitches? Or do the doctors automatically staple you up? Just trying to prepare ahead.

Re: C section ?

I think it depends on the situation and on the doctor. I know many doctors use staples, but mine used disolvable stitches and I was thankful!

Re: C section ?

I had staples. I was not asked which I would prefer. Honeslty, I was really nervous about the staples hurting when they were removed... I swear I didn't feel a thing!!!

I will tell you that I was a little freaked out the first time I took a shower after my c-section and my hand touched the staples, but you get used to it.

I got stiches, but I knew the resident attending my doctor and she told me that is the way she liked to go so she told the Doctor she was doing that (he usually used staples).

Re: C section ?

I specifically asked for the dissolving stitches and the steri-strips. Luckily, my OB does not prefer the staples, so it was not too much of a discussionChat Icon

Re: C section ?

I think it's doc preference, mine used staples and they were taken out before i left the hospital. I have a small thin scar.
ETA; Taking the staples out didn't hurt at all for me since you are numb around the incision for awhile.
