Buying stuff way in advance....
I'm sooo not good at that. I really have to give it to the moms that start holiday shopping now. I'm always afraid they won't like it in the future or change what he's into. Same with clothes. I don't get stuff for next summer now that's on sale b.c I never know what I like or if he'll change sizes so drastically.
I look for good sales and get toys that are on sale, but just not so far in advanced. Only thing we do get is outside stuff for the pool or toys for outside that go on sale end of season.

If they won't like it, or it's the wrong size in the end, gift it to someone. I think its smart to shop ahead. You can save a bundle.

I try to shop ahead because it does save money. I've already bought DD clothes for next Summer.

Re: Buying stuff way in advance....
I stopped buying way in advance, unless it was one or two things that was a super deal. I found that I bought too much-- so, now I buy what I need (on sale), so I am not swimming in clothes that get worn for such a short period. I would never buy toys in advance unless it was developmental for the baby. For Sasha, no way...

This is exactly what I do. Get what they want when the sales are out. Thanks

I've never done it & glad I havent.
I wait for the 40/50% off at gap/oldnavy/childrens place. I buy it in the correct season & the correct size.
For my kids it's too risky. She was 50% for height last year, now she is 90%. If I had guessed at her sizes, it would have all been wasted money.

Re: Buying stuff way in advance....
I don't. Especially clothes. He grew so quickly, and was always over the 90th percentile. It was very hard to predict his size. And shoes...never.
The only exception is pajamas, because I find they shrink and 3 months into wearing winter pajamas, they are too small, but at that point I can't find long sleeve pajamas anywhere. So those I stock up on.
As for toys, I don't like buying in advance. I don't know what his interests will be 6 months from now, and I don't like storing unopened gifts.
I spend my money on what I need today, not what I might need a few months from now.
