How much is a reasonable budget for this?!

Well there are a few things to consider.

1. Are you doing this yourself? Doing a job like this yourself could, in the end, cost you more than if you hired someone to do it.

2. Where is this door going? If it's a weight baring wall (which I think outside walls are) you need to put in extra suppor for the roof and/or if you have a second floor.

3. What kind of door are you getting? Different brands are priced differently. I, personally happen to be a fan of Andersen window and sliders but they tend to cost more. But I do think, with them you get what you pay for.

4. What size is the door? The bigger the door the more expensive they are. Doors can run anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand.

These things all contribute to the cost...

My brother had a 5' Andersen installed and I seem to remember him saying it cost around $1500 and that was having a contractor do it.
