Bunch of pumping questions
I just rented a Lactina double pump and am clueless... 1)Do I sterilize all parts prior to use, also do I wash them after each use and sterilize or just wash? How are those steriler bags?
2)I have been exclusively breastfeeding for a month and he eats about every 3-4 hours-when do I pump-after each feed or just some?
3)what bottles do you recommend-wide neck or standard?
4)Do I freeze the milk afterwards?
Can you tell I am clueless....

Re: Bunch of pumping questions
Okay, when you rented the Lactina, you had to buy the kit for $50, right? Sterilize all those parts before you use them. In between pumps, I usually just wash the bottles and shields with hot soapy water. Are you trying to increase your supply? Then I would pump after at least 3 feedings every day. I got too sore so I couldn't do more. I like wide neck bottles but it's a preference, one isn't better than the other. They recommend you freeze no more than 2-3 oz. at a time. That way, you don't have to defrost a whole bag and waste it if you don't need it. If you know you are going to use it, then just refrigerate it. It can last for 8 days in there. HTH!

Re: Bunch of pumping questions
I am not sure about the Lactina but some of the shields and parts come sealed in a bag when they are new, so they are sterile.

Re: Bunch of pumping questions
New does not mean steril unless it says so. All new bottles/ accessories need to be washed and some sterilized.
