bumpers?
Are you going to put yours in the crib? We took a class today and the instructor told us that the American Academy of Pediatrics now says , DON'T put bumpers in a crib because they could lead to SIDS. I'm bummed because what's the point of picking out pretty bedding when you can't use half the stuff , but of course I want to keep my baby safe!

Re: bumpers?
we're not getting bumpers....
as for the comforter, we'll be using it once the baby is older, and the risk of sids is gone.... so it isn't ENTIRELY useless.... it's just initially useless, if that makes any sense
can't do that with the bumper becuase one the baby can stand and climb, it will try to use it to climb over the edge of the crib.
I think of it this way.... at least we still have the bedskirt!

Re: bumpers?
I did not buy any bedding except sheets.
I had breathable bumpers in when he started rolling, but those did not work for long...he would push them down and still get his leg stuck.
If you follow all the sids guidelines, IMO, you will sleep better at night knowing you did everything you can. I never checked on him or anything like that.

We kept our bumpers in the crib.
Don't call the police on us, but there are quite a few things in here that the AAP doesn't recommend

Re: bumpers?
I never had bumpers and my son never hit his head or anything like that. All kids sleep all over their cribs, and they probably all bump themselves at some point, but they are tied to the crib, so if your infant gets caught in them, they can't move. I think they are dangerous (and I am super super laid back) You don't need them imo.
eta...I also never bought any bedding, imo its a waste of money because you never use any of it. I think people like bedding because it just helps them out with choosing colors and themes for the bedroom.

Re: bumpers?
I am using the bumpers. When the baby becomes more mobile and if I think they are a problem then I will remove them.

Re: bumpers?
Just wondering if it is safe to use the bumpers in the very beginning while also using one of those sleep positioners? The sleep positioners keep the baby in one place, don't they?

We plan on using bumpers until we think it is unsafe to keep them in.

I think they recommend against bumpers and sleep positioners.
We used bumpers until she was about 4 months and started rolling. In all honesty, with our next child we won't use them at all. I never slept soundly with them in, though plenty of people use them and have no trouble.

Ditto here as well. The set we purchased comes with a bumper. If I feel that it is unsafe, I will take it off.

Re: bumpers?
I was going to use them, but it turned out to be too much of a PITA to change the sheets with them on so I took them out. Once DS started rolling around I tried the breathable bumpers, but I didn't care for them.

Re: bumpers?
We plan on using them. I specifically got bedding whose bumpers had 2 sets of ties on them (top and bottom) so they fit more secure.
If we feel uncomfortable or they don't fasten as well, then we'll remove them.

Re: bumpers?
FYI, I'm pretty sure sleep positioners are another no-no. They apparently could also slip and press against the baby's face.
