My MIL has shingles. She's had it for about two months now and we were hoping it would clear up and she would no longer be contagious by the time the baby was born. Well I'm being induced tomorrow and she still has it. I asked my BIL to call her Dr (my MIL doesn't speak English very well) to see if he thinks she's still contagious so I can discuss this with the pediatrician at the hospital about whether or not she can visit. The Dr told him that nobody who's living in the house should be around the baby. So that's my MIL, FIL, and BIL. First grandchild on their side.
I'm so upset, I don't want to take this away from them but obviously I have to be cautious and do what's best for my baby. UGH. It's just such terrible timing and I feel so bad about it. I know there's really nothing I can do, I just needed to vent.

Oh, I am so so sorry 
I know this won't make you feel better - but in a few months she will be able to see the baby and he will be much more fun and interactive at that time! For now, just send her lots of pictures, and lots of phone calls to get through this rough time.

I'm so sorry - that really is a poopy situation
I hope your MIL gets better soon 
ETA: you should try to set up some sort of video chat from the hospital so the in-laws can be as close to being there as they're allowed

The video chat is a great idea. I know it's not the same but at least they would get to see the baby.

I agree Skype could work!  that she gets better soon.
