BTDT moms of finger/thumb suckers

Do the babies eventually get over this? My DD is 7 mths and both DH and I are worried (although I know there is no need to be!) She is constantly sucking her 2 fingers. She absolutely does not like the pacifier...Originally she spit it out now she just kind of tries to eat it, lol. She sucks so much so she kind of smells like saliva, kwim? Just wondering how long it takes to outgrow this. I am imagining it takes years, right?

DD#1 is 2.5 and still sucks her thumb whenever she needs comfort....am not sure when it stops but we are trying!

def takes years.. my DD sucked her thumbs in utero.. every son was with her thumb in her mouth..

now at age 4 (will be 5 in August), she still sucks her thumb but over the years we have made a deal with her to only suck it before bed... so you'll usually see her sucking hers at bedtime or when she is cranky and needs sleep (which was moreso when she was younger).

I will say that I've noticed her doing it less and less, but she hasn't completely done away with it.

Probably, it will take years.

My DD is 2y 5m and she is still a thumb sucker..........has been since BEFORE she was born!! (I have the sono pics of her sucking her thumb in the womb)

My ped said at her age there isn't much you can do to get her to stop because it's such an automatic habit. For example, the second my DD picks up her baby blankies her thumb goes right in her mouth. The ped said most kids will stop as they get a little older and start being embarrassed by it when they are around other kids. Right now, we just deal........there is nothing we can say or do to get her to stop unfortunately.

You described my 9.5mo old DD. She never took the paci and became a two finger sucker at 4mos when she started teething. She does it to self soothe and for comfort when she is teething. When the teething is bad, she sucks/chews hard but when the teeth break through, she slows down A LOT. I'm hoping that is the case! I feel your pain!
