btdt moms - labor with dc#2?

i have been reading that the labor & delivery of your second baby typically is much faster than your first. how fast was it for you?

what should i be looking for? did you wait until contractions were 5 mins apart and all that ~ or at first sign i think im in labor do i run to the hospital? (i want my epidural) i have terrible bh with this baby that i did not have with my ds and im scared im going to be one of these women giving birth in my kitchen because i misread the signals!

any advie is appreciated.

I was induced with DD1 and it was very long, so I am not sure how long it would have been if I wasn't induced.

Labor with DD2 was pretty quick, but I had contractions for 15 hours that were not at all painful. My doctor had me go to the hospital to get checked out, and I was told that I wasn't in labor and that they were sending me home. There was a lot of back and forth about whether to send me home, have me walk around or to induce me and in the end I went into labor while they were trying to decide what to do and went from 2 cm to 10 cm in less than 3 hours. DD2 was posterior, and I still only pushed for about 15 minutes.

I think if labor with your first was really quick then run to the hospital, but even "short" labor is still going to be a few hours, so you should have time to get there once the contractions come on strong and regular.

I was in labor for 18 hours with my first DC and 12 hours with DC#2. I labored more at home with the second.

I erred on the side of caution!

I was induced with DS 1 so I wasn't sure what to look for with DS 2. I went to the hospital with contractions 5 min apart on 3/15 and what I thought was my water breaking, was told I was having the baby that night, got some fluids through IV and the contractions stopped, water hadn't broken and they sent me home...

On 3/16 - I couldn't sleep that night, I was sick and uncomfortable. I was having contractions and thought my water may be leaking again (moreso than the night before) so I went to the hospital around 10am on 3/17. They Dr checked me and said I was having some contractions and I could go home or stay a little and they would talk about induction. I was 1w6d away from my due date so I don't know if I would really be induced but my water broke on it's own about 2 hrs after the Dr checked me and I had DS 6 hrs after my water broke (I probably would have had him sooner but, labor stalled and I needed pitocin and he came less than 2 hrs after the pitocin started).

#2 came in under 45 min.

im afraid this one is just going to walk out and not wait for me to get the hospital.

#1 induced, 12 hours
#2 had timable contractions for 24 hours (about 10min apart) went into labor (bloody show) and gave birth 3 hours later.

Ds #1 - 23 hours
DS #2 - I was induced
DS #3 - 5 hours - my contractions were 5 to 7 min apart for about 20 minutes when I called dr and he told me to go to the hospital right then, I was surprised but the contractions progressed very quickly. I got my epidural :)

#1 I labored for 21 hrs after being induced. #2 I labored for 9 hrs . 5 at home , I waited until they were closer together about 3-5 minutes and I got there in time for my epi

I am 2cm, 70% effaced and at work
OB said it could be today or it could be 3 weeks from now
I hate walking around like this, I feel like I can go at any minute!

dc#1 - water broke and contractions started at the same time 14 hours start to finish.

dc#2 - water broke and contractions started shortly after 6 hours total.

Both times my contractions started off at 5 minutes apart.

#2 was a little over 2 weeks early. I woke up with some pain but thought nothing of it. Waited an hour before going to the hospital. By the time I got there, I was 8cm and by the time I got into the delivery room, I had to push. One push he was out....no epi....it was the worst.

Better safe then sorry. Had I gone right away, I would have had time for the epi.

I can't speak for the timing of it as I was induced with #2, but I pushed for 3.5 hours with DC #1, and DC #2 was out in three pushes total! Hope the same goes for you in that regard!
