BTDT- first labor vs second

I know we ask these questions all the time but I'm starting to get antsy about going into labor. With DD I went a few days early, progressed well on my own, pushed for hours (she was sunny side up), then had a fairly easy recovery and lost all my weight quickly. I know I can't "plan" and it's totally out of my control but would still love to hear about others' experiences. Did you have two (or more) totally different labors?

BTDT- first labor vs second

i had two different deliveries. With DS my water broke, was in labor for 15 hours...he came right on time. DD was a week late and i was induced- but labored only for 7 hours! Recovery for both went well and was similar.

Re: BTDT- first labor vs second

my first DD came in four hours. I was induced at 38 weeks and everything went very quickly. i pushed for an hour and ultimately she had to be pulled out with forceps. with DD2 my water broke at home at 38 weeks at 8:50 pm. First contraction was at home at 9:30 pm. got to hospital and was in active labor. DD was born in two pushes at 10:37 that night. so both were quick labors and deliveries. i felt much better after DD2 because i had no epidural to recover from, and a less severe tear than with DD1.

best of luck to you. i know how scary it can be to not know how everything is going to go down. Chat Icon

1st was in labor for 7 hours. Pushed for 40 minutes. Easy recovery and lost all the weight (23 lbs) in 3 weeks. I was 26 then.

2nd i was in labor for 4 hours. Pushed for 3 minutes. Easy recovery. Lost 10 lbs within 3 weeks. Took about a year to lose the other 10 lbs once i started running and I even got back to how i was before #1. Chat Icon I was 31 then.

ETA: both came 2 weeks early.

So basically you're all telling me that I won't know until I know. Chat Icon Thank you for sharing your stories! With every other aspect of this pregnancy I've been so laid back because my questions had been answered two years ago with DD#1. The delivery is still the big scary unknown at the end though! DS 1 I was induced 4 days late, the induction started around 7am, he was born at 9:10pm after 20 minutes of pushing.

DS 2, I went into labor 13 days early. My water broke around 1-1:30, epi by 3, the Dr checked me at 6:00 and said my contractions were irregular and started me on pitocin. DS came at 7:29 after 10 minutes of pushing (he must have known how much the nurse who was working the day shift was bothering me).

ETA - For weight - I lost the weight from the second quickly but, I still had weight from the first I need to get rid of.

Labor for my two were very different. In some ways labor was worse for my second. My first dd was two days early and I was in active labor for about six or seven hours and pushing about forty minutes. My second dd was a week late. Labor started and stopped but then when it started for real she came super quickly and we barely made it to the hospital. I say she came in two pushes but quite honestly I am not even sure I was pushing really as I spent the fifteen minutes before that trying not to push on the way to the hospital. Recovery was way easier for number two for me too. I am not sure if that's because I had no epidural or I didn't tear as badly. As far as weight loss, still working on
It for baby number two whereas it went fairly fast with my first. I did gain a lot more with the second though. Good luck!

I had 2 very different labors and not at all what I expected the 2nd time around. With my first my water broke and I progressed quickly on my own. I had him 9 hours after my water broke and didnt have any pitocin or anything. His heart rate kept dropping so he needed an internal fetal monitor placed. I pushed for 20 min and he had to be vacuumed bc of his heart rate.

Posted before I finished!

With my second contractions started early Monday. I had them on and off all day. Headed to the hospital at 2 am bc I was afraid I would prepress too quickly at home if I waited. When I got there I was 3 cm so they kept me but my contractions were so inconsistent. I ended up needing to have my water broken and was given pitocin. Labor was about the same length but she was out in 3 pushes on Tuesday morning. No heart rate issues with her.

My first came 1 day before my due date and my second was 2 weeks early!
