BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
I have a 3 1/2yr old that since 2, was fully potty trained. During day, NO Accidents, she was trained in two days. Naps, never had pull ups on.
At nite we did the pull ups.
As time went by, it was just routine to wear them.
I wanted to stop, but babies came so another delay.
I was not happy with it esp after finding many kids younger were not wearing them.
So last month we take them away, tell her shes a big girl and no more.
We had a few accidents here and there, learning to have her go to bathroom prior to bed.
Thing is she will NOT get up to go to bathroom so this past week, I have changed sheets all week plus the laundry.
My DH keeps telling me shes not ready but hello shes almost FOUR!
Im ready! LOL
SO I need help on what has helped you guys in the past

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
Do you limit her drinks at night? Or have a cut off? This may help.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
DS gets little to drink and goes to the bathroom right before getting in bed. He usually wakes me in the middle of the night if he has to go, but occassionally has an accident (maybe once every 2 or 3 mos)
He was 4 in July and potty trained very easily on his 3rd b-day and wore pull-ups to bed for a couple mos.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
I could have written this post myself. My DD was potty trained since 19 mos. No accidents at all during the day. We also did pull ups at night bc she was first in her crib and it just became habit. A month or two ago we ran out of pull ups and I did the same thing and said you are a big girl etc. She had SO many accidents. Almost every night. I read online that some kids are not trained at night until they are like 6 so I am not pushing it. I put them back on her and I am much more aware of making her go potty before bed, limiting drinks etc. She does wake me at night to go now and she rarely has a wet pull up in the morning.
Sorry this is prob no help but just wanted you to know you are not alone. Good luck!

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
I have no advice, but I'm in the same boat. T has been in underwear since February. He's been totally day time trained for a while, but he goes through spurts... he goes long periods of being dry all night and then goes long periods of being wet almost every night. I try to cut of liquid after 7 p.m. He goes potty right before bed. Occasionally he calls me an hour or so after being put to bed to go potty, but that doesn't seem to relate to whether he's dry or not in the morning. The ped said not to worry too much or push nighttime dryness... it will happen. Also, my 4 year old nephew is still wet a couple of mornings a week.
Good luck!
ETA: He's still in pull ups at night... Everytime I think about stopping them, he has a spurt of wet mornings.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
what time is she having her last drink?
also, I would invest in a good mattress protector.. they have ones at onestepahead that are fantastic! I bought the full sized ones and put them on the twin size bed so it covered more area being that my kids move around alot in their sleep.
I would get 2 of those.. so that if she wets the bed, all you have to do is swap it out with the second one and you don't have to change sheets.. it holds up to 8 cups of water!

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
Same thing here. I was actually thinking about it this morning - how I am done with the night time pull-ups. There seems to be little or no consistency with when Troy is dry or wet int he morning. He is at daycare full time- when we get home (~6pm) I limit his liquid intake- he has no more than 6-8oz (I have no idea if that is alot or not).
I also have been trying to get into a routine of having him go to the bathroom as soon as we get home and at least 1 more time (sometimes 2 times) before bedtime.
In the past month, he has woken up 2 or 3 times in the night to goto the bathroom. Other than that, he does not wake at night to go.
Sorry no advice, but it seems consistent to not push. I've contemplated waking him to go to the bathroom (like before I go to bed), but I am afraid he wont go back to sleep.
Good luck!!!
ETA: His last real drink is a small (really small) amount of milk around 7:30-8pm. I've tried cutting this out, but he's hooked.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
Andrew is 4 1/2 and still has an issue at night. He soaks at least 3 times a week and I have to change everything! Pillow, Sheets, Blanket, Clothes!!! It is sooo annoying!
He does fine all day but at night is the problem no matter what we tried.
The pediatrician said some kids take up until 6 years old until they can hold it through the night They said there is nothing strange about it and it happens more then most people know. Parents are usually just embarrassed to talk about it.
I use a pull-up and diaper and it still never works.
It is not his fault. His little bladder is just not ready yet.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
I potty trained DS day/overnight in one weekend. I think because I did it like that, he understood, IDK?
I just told him that it was time for bed and if he had to go pee pee, to get up. I put a night light in his room. Does G have one?
ETA: After one week with over night pullups he was waking up dry, so I switched to underwears.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
DD eats dinner around 5/5:30 and that's about the last time she has a drink. She goes to bed around 8ish. I have her go to the bathroom around 7ish and then again right before bed. Since she's still in a crib (she's 2 1/2) I used to worry that she would have a lot more accidents. She's had one or two but I think because she doesn't have much too drink she's ok. Even when she gets up in the morning she doesn't have to go to the bathroom right away. We took the pullups away after 2 weeks though and just hoped for the best.

No. door is open. Really she is just a deep sleeper and a lazy one to add. She wont get up to pee.
Our other issue is the drinks before bed. Its routine and she refuses to give up that milk she takes before bed. I make her go to bathroom before bed too but we still have accidents.

That's interesting that sometimes they aren't night trained until 6. DS is 4 1/2 also and no matter what we do, he still has about 3-4 accidents a week. I feel bad for him because he's started to get upset over it. The problem is, he does not wake up for anything! I guess, like you said, his little bladder is not ready. He must have a small bladder like his mommy. Luckily, I wake up though!

I don't remember exactly, but I want to say around 3 years and 3 months...maybe a little earlier/later. I am so bad with remembering this kind of stuff

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
It took DS almost 6 months before he woke up dry. I had pull-ups on him. He was good for a few months and then the last 2-3 months he started peeing in the middle of the night at least 2x's a week. I was getting so annoyed so I put him back in pull ups but kept his underwear on (pull up over his underwear). He wasn't happy about it, but after peeing in underwear/pull-up one time he hasn't had an accident since and now we are going on 2 weeks. I told him he has to go through a whole pack of waking up dry before he can go back to underwear again. If he has 1 accident he has to go through another pack. I know he is lazy to get up and pee. There was a good 1-2 week period that he would wake up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The other thing I do is his last drink is what ever he has at dinner. I use to wait and give them drinks when they finished eating but that meant waiting a little longer to put him to sleep so now I give him his milk with dinner. By the time he is done and actually falls asleep it is probably 2-3 hours.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
I wouldn't worry about it or push it. Tried with DS and he just wasn't ready. Every now and then we'll try again, but I'm not gonna force him. The more people I talk to, the more I realize being able to hold it through the night at 3.5 does not seem to be the norm.

My dc is nearly 7 and in pull-ups at night. No where near being ready. We are seeing a urologist, but its not entirely uncommon

I tried to do it all at once and it never happened for my son.
My dd was potty trained day fro two months before she just stopped wetting at night. She is out of pull-ups full-time.
My son is 3 yrs older and would LOVE to be out of them but his bladder just can't do it.
You really have to consider the kid as much as the method.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
my dd is 3 1/1 and she too was totally trained just after two years old. SHe has been wearing pull ups at night and really its only been since the summer that most nights the pull up is dry in the morning. A couple weeks ago I let her wear undies to bed. The third night she had an accident so shes been back in pull ups since. Well wait a bit and try again.
Our ped also said that its very common until a bit older and I feel so lucky with her in so many ways, taht I would never want to push this and have her feeling bad about herself.

Re: BTDT- Bed wetting - Questions
This is going to be a huge issue when it comes time to tackle it with Jack. He gets a full sippy of milk an hour before bed, and then he gets a cup that he brings to bed with him and drinks while he unwinds and plays with his toys. I can't see him ever drinking less milk so it's going to be a nightmare.
