Broiler help
When I was growing up, the broiler was only used a few times a year but I definately don't remember it smoking like crazy but then again, anything that was cooked in there, I dont think they put any sauces/liquid over the meat when cooking.
the two times I have used the broiler now in my house, it was for steak, the first time with a lot of marinade over it, this time no marinade (but it was still soaked in it) because I thought the liquid was the problem...but both times, the whole entire house got so smokey that we had to open all the windows, and i even had to put the pets in another room and I went outside because I couldnt breathe and my eyes burned. Its extremely bad. Today the house still reeks of steak smoke. The smoke comes up from the back of the stove area like behind the two back burners. I dont think this should be happening, but wanted to see from you ladies.
Also- everything seems to get done very fast if I dont turn it quickly a zillion times...this I guess is the same problem...but last night, I turned the steak over every minute so it wouldnt actually get charred (also thinking this would help the smoke, but it didnt. )
eta: we did put on the fan on the stove but it definitely couldnt handle the amount of smoke being created.

Re: Broiler help
My broiler smokes when it needs to be cleaned. The marinade could also cause smoking, because it will burn off, but not to the exent what you described. That your meat cooks or burns so quickly could be because you have it too close to the broiler element. Lower the tray to the lowest setting.
Is your broiler the pull out kind or the type that it the topmost part of the oven ?
