bringing a car seat on the plane
my husband and i are hoping to fly to florida with our daughter who is 1 1/2. we dont' need to buy a seat but were thinking about it so she woudl be buckled in. should we? if we do buy her a seat we are not sure if we should bring the carseat. it doesn't seem like her 'big girl' carseat will fit in the plane seat. she might still fit in the carseat that goes with the travel system so we were thinking of bringing that one if she seems comfortable in it. i'll take any suggestions/ideas. thanks

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
We are bring DS's regular convertable car seat when we fly to Hawaii. We did get him a seat (we used airline miles) because it is such a long flight.

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
We've flown with DD from FL to NY and back several times already and haven't bought her a seat yet. The most recent was at Christmas time when she was 16 months and she did great.

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
We flew to CA when DS was 20 months old. We brought the Britax Marathon on the plane. It was a PITA to strap it in securely, but the flight attendants helped us. DS was comfortable in it and eventually napped in the car seat.

AJ was 2 when we went to hawaii and I was SOOOOOO glad she didnt have a car seat on the plane. At least the seat. We just used the stroller in the airport and checked it at the gate. She laid across us to sleep and we had the belt on top of that. It was nicer to have her stretched out.
You can rent a car seat at Hawaii. They had ours waiting for us at the rental company. They also picked it up from there so I didn't have to deliver it anywhere. It was $6 a day. Pay when you leave. Costs us $31 I think. Got in on the 15th of dec left on the 20th. They also rented cribs, toddler beds, high chairs etc. They were awesome!

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
WE have brought our Britax Marathon on the plane before. We used it because we got a cheap flight to CHicago last April when DS was 10 months old. Currently, DS is 20 months old and he will have a seat when we fly to TX in a week. He does much better with a seat. He doesn't sleep on us while he will in a seat. This summer we flew to Puerto Rico and he was 13 months and we didn't get him a seat and he didn't sleep at all. He was good but didn't sleep.

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
we brought a full size carseat onto the plane until age 2. After 2, we check it with the luggage.

Re: bringing a car seat on the plane
We have been to FL a few times with DS, all before age 2 and never bought him a seat.
He did great bouncing back and forth between DH and I.
