Breastmilk storage question??
I pumped from a few different sessions into one bottle over the course of two days and refrigerated it for about 24 hours, but didnt use it. Can I still freeze it now? TIA!

Re: Breastmilk storage question??
the official sources would probably say no, although i'm not sure why... personally, i would do it rather than waste the milk. i've frozen milk after a couple days in the fridge and given it to ds and have never had a problem. i think you're fine.

I agree, it would kill me to get rid of that. I would definitely smell it and take it from there.

Re: Breastmilk storage question??
If it's only a few days old, why can't you just feed it to DC and then pump new for the freezer? I was told by my lactation consultant that I could refrigerate up to 24 hours before freezing. After that, just feed it and pump new.

DONT jump that precious milk, like the last mom said, give it to your baby today... otherwise you can freeze milk as long as its fresh (under 8days old in frigde) I would just write the date you pumped it on the bad or container so you know how old it is when you defrost. HTH

Re: Breastmilk storage question??
Wait!!!!! Did you say you pumped into the same bottle for 2 days and didn't refrigerate it until after the 2 days? If it wasn't refrigerated, you will need to dump it. If you were were refrigerating it, then adding to it, then just feed it in your next feeding.
They do say to only add cooled milk to already refrigerated milk. In other words: Don't take a cold bottle out of the fridge and then pump directly into that.
The guidelines I was told: -Fresh milk must be refrigerated within 10 hours of pumping -refrigerated milk must be frozen within 24 hours of pumping (if you want to freeze it). This gives you time at work to put it in the fridge then freeze once you get home. -refrigerated milk must be consumed within 8 days of pumping (some say 6 days)

No I refrigerated it immediately and it was actually less than 24 hours before I froze it. Although I didnt add cooled milk, I added fresh milk...I thought I read you could do that....I guess Ill keep it frozen and smell it when the time comes to use it. Thanks everyone!
