breastfeeding moms : newborns and poop
My 6 week old stopped pooping the other day. I brought her to the dr. and she told me suppositories, gripe water and mylicon for gas..
its been 4 days since dr and i have given her the suppostories..
QUESTION: has anyone elses breastfeeding newborn gone through this.. it concerns me that her large intestines may not be working well.
she was pooping fine until the beg. of the week.
any help would be great. Thanks.

Yes, at 6 weeks DD's pooping schedule changed drastically from every diaper to every other day. There were times that she didn't go for 5 days or so.
I was under the impression that it is normal for a BF baby to go up to a week without pooping as long as there are plenty of wet diapers and the baby doesn't seem uncomfortable.

really, I was not told that. This makes me so relieved. Did your DD cry with gas? My Dd is doing that every night now and if I dont use the suppository, she cries for long periods.
Thank you so much for resonding.

yep DC would go days without pooping. Ped told me it was fine and completely normal - it just meant their bodies were using all the food and nutrients!

Re: breastfeeding moms : newborns and poop
I have not gone through this...my DD at 4 months still poops everyday a bunch of times...BUT before we left the hospital the LC told me that BF babies don't always poop a lot...sometimes just one or two times a week. So I wouldn't worry...its normal.
Congratulations :)
