Breaking the Binkie Habit.... HELP!
DDs is going to be 18 months soon, and I want her to ditch the binkies. Right now she only has them for sleeping, car rides, and a few other times. So how do you get them to sleep with out a binkie? I really don't want to cause her anxiety over it, so I want to find the best approach. She is non verbal, but has good comprehension, but I don't think she gets the "big girl" concept (partly because I swear she thinks she is an adult already ) Can you share your experience please?

Re: Breaking the Binkie Habit.... HELP!
we used Santa for DD..worked out great!! At that age she "got it" she was old enough to understand! I said I was going to do it at 2 yrs...but by then we were just using it in her crib so it wasn't like she was out in public with it! SO I let it go a little longer!
She was 2 yrs 4mo old when it was Christmas...we told her that Santa will bring it to other babies and leave toys as thanks! She kept telling everyone that Santa took it and didn't give us any problems at night from there on out!
I think I am going to use the Easter bunny for my DS who turned 2 in Jan and just uses it in his crib now as well! Pray it goes as smoothly...but I am thinking it will not...lol

Ha Ha! I was thinking the same thing. I have to rid the paci. He was doing better with just night time. THen he got the dreaded stomach bug going around and I caved b/c he's been so uncomfortable. He's had it all weekend BTW... I can't wait for Hanukkah to come. That's too far away.

I've been trying to talk up the Easter Bunny bringing her a hula hoop in exchange for her binkies ... we'll see if I can keep talking it up (and actully make her give them up!)!
Ann is almost 21 months and only uses it at home for sleep - she naps fine at daycare without one - I guess it's my fault!

Re: Breaking the Binkie Habit.... HELP!
Not there yet with my 6m old DS, but my cousin used Santa on her two DCs and it worked like a charm both times! They were both about 2 1/2 at the time and in the weeks leading up to Christmas, she told them that they were supposed to leave their binkies under the tree for Santa to take for little babies who needed them. He would leave an extra present to say thank you. They both did it and it was like the binkies never existed after that! I'm sure the Easter Bunny would work too.
Maybe we should come up a new character called the Binkie Fairy! Kinda like the Tooth Fairy where DC would leave binkies under their pillow to give to the babies and the Binkie Fairy will leave a thank-you present in the morning! And just talk it up for a few weeks first. Could work...
