Braxton Hicks
To the BTDT moms How far before you went into actual labor did you start getting the BH contractions? I am 37 weeks and they are driving me crazy! I just want to make sure I don't mistake the real thing for false labor pains!

Re: Braxton Hicks
I was having BX at around 35 weeks -- brought on by walking nearly a mile in August after my car ran out of gas.
I continued to get them frequently -- to the point where sometimes I'd have to sit down in grocery stores and while I was out and about.
I never went into labor though. Never dialated, but ended up having a c/s 3 days before due date because of the baby's size.

Re: Braxton Hicks
Ooh, I can see why that would bring on the contractions

Re: Braxton Hicks
I have BTDT
I had BH since week 30 and I gave birth via c-section at 38 1/2 weeks. The last week I had prodromal labor for 6 days (article on prodromal labor - http://www.childbirthsolutions.com/articles/birth/whatlabor/index.php) As it turned out, my DD's cord was wrapped around her shoulder blades, every time she would come down the cord pulled her back up like a bungee cord. Her heart rate never dropped because the cord was a round the shoulders therefore, she was not is distress, she just could not come out on her own. The OB said it was rare.
I know BH is not fun. My OB used to tell me to have a small glass of wine. The wine should stop the BH. If it does not stop, you are in real labor!
All I can offer you is and that the BH stops or that you go into labor. Hang in there, I know it really S U C K S.

Re: Braxton Hicks
With Joseph, I had BH at 33 weeks - the week before I had him, but I had walked up avenues & blocks forever (it was 9/11).
With Maddie, I had them at 37 weeks on & off for 2 weeks before I had her.
I was given a chart by my ob/gyn which had the difference between BH & real labor. This is what I remember from the chart: BH do not radiate from your back to the front of your belly. Real labor does.
BH will stop if you change positions, drink water etc. Real labor will not.
You could sleep through BH, you cannot through Real Labor. (we all wish)

Re: Braxton Hicks
Don't worry - you won't mistake BH Contractions for labor pains. I thought I was in labor 3 times before it really happened. When you go into labor you most likely won't have much doubt

That is also what I am afraid of! Thinking I am in labor when I'm really not. Guess it works both ways, huh?

Re: Braxton Hicks
Mine didn't hurt, I would just feel everything tighten. I think the key to labor pains is that you have trouble talking through them.
