Re: Bradley Manning

I don't know much about it but I read somewhere that his sentence was much more severe than anyone else convicted of the same crime, so if that's the case I think it's appropriate that his sentence was commuted.

I don't know enoigh about the specific circumstances to really have an opinion, but I will say that since she is transgender and identifies as female, we should be referring to her as Chelsea Manning.

I'm uneasy with it.

I think it's ******** that Snowden gets shit from others and the Obama admin but this woman gets commuted.

Re: Bradley Manning

I am incredibly uneasy with the precedence it sets. I think he is no longer a man and identifies as a woman though.

No other leak case has been given a sentence of more than 3 years. She has already served 7, admitted guilt, and apologized. Obama denied her previous application but considering the precedent, time served, and the fact that she is most likely not receiving the mental health support she needs I don't see fault in his decision now.

I initially opened this because I was curious about who Bradley Manning was, then I realized why I was confused. She hasn't been referred to as Bradley for years and I forgot her former name.

I mostly agree with this but also have concerns about precedent. She made two suicide attempts so I am sure that was a concern.

Yea but manning served time. Snowden ran off. I would think he would have been treated the same if he stayed?

This is what I was thinking. I didn't know who this was even about.

I think by whatever name this person chooses to go by, she is a criminal and was convicted of crimes against this Country. I don't agree that the sentence should have been commuted.

I don't know if he would. I thought about that. I think he ran off because he probably felt his life was going to be in danger.

I think there's a difference between being a military member and leaking information that can put troops in danger versus a government contractor who blew the whistle on a major company like Verizon collecting information and being involved in surveillance on us, the citizens of America.

I was very disappointed in Obama and his reaction towards Snowden.

The biggest thing I took away from all this is I think we need stiffer sentences for these crimes!
3 - 7 yrs is too lenient. IMO

That's the part that makes me uneasy… I understand it's probably a lot of political stuff with her because over situation and things.

Doesn't set a good example.

There are a few people that he's pardoned or commuted that I don't agree with.
