Re: Bowling?

I know I'm no help here- but I've heard conflicting reports on this. I've heard that you should bowl at all- but then again, a friend of mine bowled in her weekly league up until she gave birth!

Isn't it obvious?

Re: Bowling?

I haven't only because of the carpal tunnel issue and my DH was a bit too concerned about me doing it and possibly throwing something out of whack.

This is from Babycenter:

Is it safe to bowl while I'm pregnant?

First answer | Second answer

Expert: Jeanne-Marie Guise, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, Oregon Health Services Center, Portland, OR

Since your joints and ligaments get looser during pregnancy it is possible that the motions used in bowling in combination with the weight of the ball would put a strain on your back and other ligaments. But it's probably pretty safe.

Bowling should be fine. It's true that your joints and ligaments relax during pregnancy, but how much they relax varies from woman to woman. Most expectant mothers don't experience that relaxation to the extent that they'd injure themselves while bowling. I do have one caution, though: Once you hit your third trimester, take care to lift your bowling ball in a way that won't strain your back muscles. That means making sure to bend at your knees and to keep your back straight

Re: Bowling?

So if I've been having back pain, I'd probably be best to stay away from bowling?

Re: Bowling?

I would say yes, as long as it's just "casually" and you don't have any pain. Just be careful with your balance.

Re: Bowling?

I did a few times during my first pregnancy and I hurt so much afterwards - I'm staying away this time.

Re: Bowling?

I went bowling this weekend and to be honest with you, after a couple of hours I felt the strain in my abdomen...you could do it but take it easy.

Re: Bowling?

Since it's very easy to pull a muscle in your belly during pregnancy, I personally would avoid it.

Re: Bowling?

I bowl at times with some friends. MY doctor said it was fine. Plus, I only use a 6lb ball so that is like not lifting anything.
