Bottle Sterilizers

So we went to BRU to register and I am OVERWHELMED!

I am confused about bottles and sterilizers. In a perfect world I would like to BF, but eventually I am sure I will pump or switch to bottles.

What type of sterilizer are you getting? Are they only for the type of bottle you used? If so, then what if you try a new type of bottle?

Thank you for the help!!!!

Re: Bottle Sterilizers

I plan to BF, but when I pump I think I'm going to use drop-ins/disposable bottles & put the nipples in the dishwasher. I heard the same thing about the sterilizers being not entirely safe.

I liked our Avent steralizer, but I burned a hole in itChat Icon

Once we moved and had a dishwasher, I just put the bottles in there.

Re: Bottle Sterilizers

I just sterlized my nipples the old fashion way...boiling water in a pot for 3 minutes. I'm using glass bottles...my mom washed them thoroughly in hot water...Im scared to sterlize those for some reasons. I sterlized my breast pump in a pot with boiling hot water also.

we bought the Avent sterilizer.

We plan to only sterilize the new bottles - when first bought from store.

The nurse in our baby care class recommended sterilizing the bottles and nipples by boiling them initially. After one sterilization, she said the dishwasher is fine to clean them.

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet--I don't like the idea of boiling the plastic, eventhough we have the safe plastic. I may just run them through the dishwashwer. Ours gets pretty hot.

Re: Bottle Sterilizers

i have the Avent sterilizer and i sterilize the bottles before every use and am still doing it 10 months later.
i put them through the dishwasher first and then use the sterilizer i know i know i am a total germ freak but i see it as this is his food source so why wouldnt i make sure it was clean Chat Icon

i will continue to sterilize until he is no longer using bottles

I only used my bottle sterilizer a few times in the beginning. After that I just put them in the dishwasher. I definitely could have done without it.
