Both tubes are blocked. **updated***
A little history on me did 2 frozen transfers left over from my DS that I paid for. I have non left & both transfers ended up in Negative pgncy test. So now this month I decided to try IUI cause my ins company will pay for them, my Dr (Sung) sends me to get hystersalpingogram. I get it done today ( the worst pain of my life that they had to stop the test & not finish) The tech tells me the pain was from him trying to push the fluids in my tubes but they were hitting a wall causing the pain. He told me both of my tubes are blocked he thinks from my c-section scar tissue & if I want to get pgnt I have to get surgery. I am going to be 40 this March. I don't know what to do & I am scared Dr. Sung is going to tell me I can't have kids w/o the surgery I see her Tom.

Re: Both tubes are blocked
First I am sorry you are dealing with this. But first talk to your doctor and find out what the surgery entails. It could be a simple procedure.

Both tubes are blocked
if your tubes are blocked - even if its irreversible you could still get pregnant from IVF since it bypasses the tubes. i dont know if thats what she was considering "surgery." your recent negative cycles might be due to scar tissue but more in the uterus than in the tubes. i agree with the others that you should really talk to your doctor and see what he says before being very upset about it - it may be an easier fix than you are anticipating. good luck!

Re: Both tubes are blocked
Exactly what PP have said. If the case truly is both tubes blocked, there is always IVF. No need for tubes with that.
Try not to freak out too much and speak to your Doctor.

Re: Both tubes are blocked
I spoke to Dr Sung & she agreed that both my tubes are block. She said I have 3 choices: 1. Have surgery to unblock my tubes 2. Try to get a grant for IVF ( as my ins won't cover it) 3. Don't do anything & just be finish with having more kids.
I don't know what to choose my DH is against # 1 & is ok with just having 2 kids, but I feel like something is still missing.

Why doesn't your DH want you to unblock your tubes?

He doesn't want me to have unnecessary surgery. He is scared I won't wake up from the anesthesia

You have to be put under anesthesia for IVF.

Re: Both tubes are blocked. **updated***
I had both tubes blocked due to scar tissue from endometriosis and after IVF I was able to get pregnant with twin girls. You don't have to have surgery. My RE told me that surgery was the "old" way of dealing with blocked tubes. He said since IVF bypassed the tubes and was less invasive then it made more sense to try that first. But I understand because you would have to pay out of pocket it may not be the best decision financially....keep us updated on what you decide on!

unless you have a pre-existing issue which makes that a distinct possibility - that's a pretty low-risk thing to be worried about - and it's a silly thing to stop you from moving forward if that's what you as a couple truly want. as the PP said you go under anesthesia for IVF for the egg retrieval so if he is really against it and you can't change his mind then you might be out of luck. you can always try on your own with the slightest of chances the egg can find its way past the blockage - which are very very low chances but stranger things have happened. however if it were me i would really consider having a serious discussion with your husband about his fears - did he lose someone that was under anesthesia? does he have a legitimate reason for this fear? honestly your chances of complications during child birth are way higher than the chance of not waking up from anesthesia.

Re: Both tubes are blocked. **updated***
If both of my tubes were blocked (i have 1 blocked from Endo as well, but it couldn't be fixed) and I already had children, I'd leave them blocked and go for IVF.
It may sound a little stupid, but it's sorta like Birth Control. You won't have to worry about accidentally getting pregnant. You have done IVF before, you can just do it again.

The only reason he does not want me to have the surgery to unblock the tubes cause Dr Sung told us that the ivf retreavel was less invasive of a surgery.

this is definitely true. IVF is barely a surgery - more a surgical procedure, there's no incision at all. but you are still under anesthesia either way.
